MDL is a profit-making Central Government Schedule ‘A’ PSU under the Ministry of Defence, Department of Defence Production, engaged primarily in the construction of Warships and Submarines for the Indian Navy. MDL also builds other vessels including commercial vessels. The turnover of the Company is expected to be over Rs.1,500 crores in the year 2006-07 and is projected to be higher in the coming years. MDL has an employee strength of around 8000. I. Qualifying Requirements:a) Educational Qualification: Full time Bachelor degree in Engineering from a recognised university / deemed university with minimum 55% marks. b) Age: Not exceeding 26 years as on 31st March, 2006. c) Reservations: The reservation of posts for Probationary Officers would be as under: Category Numbers SC 08 ST 04 OBC (non-creamy layer) 16 PH(Physically Handicapped) 01* *in the discipline of Computer/IT Engg. in the category of either Visually Handicapped-low vision(VH) or Orthopaedically Handicapped (OH) or Hearing Handicapped (HH). 57
d) Age Relaxations: Age is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (Non Creamy Layer) and 10 years for Physically Handicapped (PH). e) Pay and Allowances: Probationary Officers will be appointed in the IDA pay scale of Rs.8600250-14600. The gross emoluments at the minimum of the pay scale is presently Rs. 18,000/approx. In addition, PF, Gratuity, LTA, and Medical facility are also admissible as per company’s rules. f) Processing Fee: Candidates applying for the posts of Probationary Officers are required to pay a processing fee of Rs.250/- (non-refundable) by way of Demand Draft to be drawn in favour of Mazagon Dock Limited, payable at Mumbai. SC/ST/PH category candidates are exempted from payment of processing fee. III. Career prospects in MDL: A selected Probationary Officer shall be confirmed as an officer of the Company in the rank of “Senior Engineer” on successful completion of the probation period of one year. Applications must be in response to our Advertisement quoting Reference No. and Discipline on the application form. Applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format available on the MDL Website/ Employment News / Rojgar Samachar. All instructions as given on the MDL Website/ Employment News / Rojgar Samachar must be adhered to, failing which, the applicant will be disqualified for the post. “Post of Probationary Officer(……………….)” should be superscribed on the envelope containing the application. The name of the concerned Engineering discipline is to be inserted in the bracketed portion. Applications should contain a recent passport size photograph pasted on the application, self-attested copies of date of birth proof certificates, caste/PH certificate as applicable and Degree certificate with mark-sheets. Applications must be forwarded to MDL through Post/Courier Service only. Applications forwarded through any other means including by Fax or e-mail will not be entertained. Applications must reach the Additional General Manager(Training & Officers’ Recruitment), Mazagon Dock Limited, Dockyard Road, Mumbai 400 010 on or before 7th April, 2006. MDL will not be responsible for any delay/loss in postal transit of any application or communication.
V. Selection Procedure: a) Written Test: Eligible candidates will be intimated through a call letter to appear for an objective type written test including a psychometric test to be held in May, 2006. These tests will be held in Mumbai only. Candidates will have the option to write the tests in English or Hindi and the option once exercised shall be final. b) Interview: Candidates short-listed based on performance in the written test and psychometric test will only be called for the interview. The interview will be held in Mumbai. c) Verification of Original Documents: All original documents such as degree certificate, mark-sheets, proof of date of birth, caste/disability certificate, etc. will be checked at the time of interview. Nonproduction of original documents will debar the candidate from appearing for the interview and no Travel Fare (see VII below) will be reimbursed to such candidates. d) Caste/Disability Certificate: SC/ST/OBC candidates must produce certificates of proof, as per the format prescribed by the Government. In the case of OBC candidates, the certificate of proof that they “do not belong to the creamy layer” must be not older than six months as on 30.06.2006. The candidate should have the requisite caste certificate in prescribed form issued in his/her own name in original. Where a candidate belonging to the SC/ST/OBC category is unable to produce a certificate from any of the prescribed authorities, he/she will be appointed provisionally on the basis of whatever prima facie proof he/she is able to produce in support of his/her claim, subject to his/her furnishing the prescribed certificate within six months from the date of his/her joining the Company. e) Medical Test: Applicants should be of sound health and meet the medical fitness standards as required by the Company. Candidates short-listed for appointment after the interview shall have to undergo a medical test conducted/organised by the Company and certified by the Company's Chief Medical Officer. f) Offer of Appointment and Bond: Candidates finally selected will be offered appointment to the post of Probationary Officer at the minimum basic pay of Rs.8600/-p.m.in the IDA pay scale of Rs.8600250-14600 and they would have to enter into a bond of Rs.50,000/-to serve the Company for a minimum period of THREE years from the date of joining the Company. Appointment shall be on probation for a period of one year during which the services of the probationary officer is liable to be terminated on account of his/her performance/conduct being adjudged as unsatisfactory by the Management. VI. Intimation for written test/interview a) Names of eligible candidates for written test will be hosted on MDL website. Call letter/hall ticket will be sent along with instructions for the written and psychometric test by post/courier to these eligible candidates. Reimbursement of Travel fare for interview: Candidates appearing for the interview will be reimbursed travel fare by 2 Tier AC Rail / Bus by the shortest route on production of tickets.
VIII. Important Instructions Applicants must ensure that their applications reach the AGM (TOR), MDL by the due date. Late
