April Fool‟s Day…No…Pirate Day! On Friday, April 1st, Eagleville Elementary Specialists held a school wide Pirate day. Each grade level boarded the „Black Pearl‟ through a pirate cave and set sail for a day of adventure. Students and staff were encouraged to come dressed like a pirate. Before embarking on their voyage, students participated in an oral reading from Robin Hook, Pirate Hunter which had been signed by our visiting author/illustrator, Michael Dooling. Groups of students traveled to a variety of stations based on a pirate theme. Activities included „Walk the Plank‟, „Capture the Flag‟, „Treasure Toss‟, „Cargo Climb‟, and „Barrel Roll‟. The gym was decorated with a plethora of student art work. There were ships, treasure maps, parrots, ocean murals, and much more. At the completion of the activities, the students sang the sea shanty, “Talk Like a Pirate”. To add to the day‟s theme, students used „pirate talk‟ when doing the morning announcements, teachers continued the theme in their class lessons, and there was a pirate themed lunch as well. Fun was had by all. Arr!
