     in the Commonwealth of Kentucky

                            February 11-12, 2010

Educating Latinos for Kentucky’s Future invites you to submit an abstract for
presentation at the first annual conference, “Opportunities and Challenges Facing
Latino Students in the Commonwealth.” This conference will provide a forum for
faculty, staff, students, policy makers, administrators, and community leaders who are
interested in sharing experiences, enhancing knowledge, creating partnership
opportunities, and developing innovative approaches in creating opportunities and
breaking down barriers for Latino students navigating the educational system in
Kentucky.

Suggested Themes
We invite you to address one of the following themes:

      Elementary Schools and Latino Students: Issues Involving ESL Students
      Latino High School Drop Out Dilemma
      Latino Students in Higher Education
      Community Resources to Enhance Academic Success
      Latino Faculty/Staff Working in a Predominantly White Institutions
      The Dream Act: Short-Term and Long-Term Impact

Abstract (Maximum 300 words/2000 characters):

Audiovisual Equipment
We plan to have each room set with a computer and LCD projector. A microphone will
be provided depending on room size. Presenter will be responsible for additional
audiovisual equipment needed.

Compensation
ELKF will waive the conference registration fee for all of the presenters as a gesture of
appreciation for donated service.


Review of Abstracts
Abstracts will be reviewed by a team composed of ELKF board members, faculty and
staff and community leaders working in the area of Latino Affairs. Information you
provide in this application will be used to evaluate your presentation and provide
promotional information if selected.
