"WG trash announcement Sept 09"
September 21, 2009 Westbury Gardens neighbors: We have selected a new trash company that will handle both regular trash and large junk waste pick-up for Westbury Gardens. VF Waste Services will begin handling trash on October 1. VF is providing us with trash cans, much like the trash service to private homes in Houston, but our garbage will be picked up three times a week. This should greatly improve issues with smell, scattered trash, and the unsightliness of our current procedure. These trash bins are being maintained by VF, who will clean and disinfect them quarterly. This is all provided at roughly the same cost as our current service. Single-family units will each have their own 32-gallon bins. Multi-family units will share numerous 95-gallon bins at various locations. These may be adjusted in the future based upon need. Single-family bins should be stored on the back patio or at the back fence of each individual unit, and placed at the back of your parking space for pick-up by 7am. (Do not block other parking spaces or the driveway.) Small trash will be picked up every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday morning. Large junk waste will be picked up every Monday. You can legally place large trash items out beginning at noon on Sunday. These items should be placed at or near the small trash bins. Your garbage container is for disposing of regular household garbage in trash bags. Certain items should NOT be disposed of in your garbage can either because they are too heavy or because they may harm VF employees, your property, neighbors, pets and the environment. Please do not put the following items in your garbage can: • Household chemicals, including batteries, fluorescent lights, paints and thinners, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, cleaners, ammonia and bleach, motor oil and other automotive fluids, aerosol cans, photographic chemicals and dead animals. Please take your household hazardous waste to the Environmental Service Center at 11500 S Post Oak, 77035. • Construction, demolition and remodeling debris, including rocks, dirt, plywood, bricks, stone, concrete, mortar, sand, sheet rock, insulation, flooring, sheet glass, mirrors and similar items. • Computer equipment, which contains metals harmful to the environment. Please bring them to the Westpark Consumer Recycling Center or the Environmental Service Center. (See below) • Recyclables stay updated at www.WestburyGardens.net September 21, 2009 Large Junk Waste: • Junk Waste should be placed near the small trash bins in a location easily accessible to the collection vehicle between the hours of noon on Sunday and 7:00 am Monday. Materials should not be placed in any right-of-way which would interfere with pedestrian or vehicular traffic. • Please limit your heavy trash items to no more than 3 items per home and 50 pounds maximum on each heavy trash day. Large items must be broken down when possible. • Residents can dispose of items such as furniture (but not extremely heavy or large), small sofas and couches, appliances, mattresses, thin wood doors, small televisions, lightweight bath tubs, a very small amount of bundled carpet, and similar items. • Appliances containing refrigerants must have a tag attached to them certifying that a qualified technician has removed the refrigerant. • Items that will not be collected include sheet rock, tile, cabinets, toilets, heavy bath tubs, metal doors, concrete, glass doors, large amounts of carpet, batteries, tires, rocks, dirt, bricks, concrete, roofing shingles, oils, paint, antifreeze, dead animals and any other hazardous materials.
