Blog Overview Seminar Course Outline: This seminar will introduce the basis of blogging to the attendees and focuse on how blogs can assist them in instructing their courses. Some locally developed blogs will be examined and some basic blog features will be showcased. Different types of blogging software will also be highlighted, but with a focus on the University’s supported product – Movable Type. - What is a blog? - Types of blogs? (Focus on instructional technology) - Discussing software available for creating blog (Focus on Movable Type) - Demonstrating and showcasing blogs on campus - Demonstrating and showcasing blog features Course Duration: 1 hour (not hands on) Effort Required: 7 hours Completion Date: July 15 2005 Launch Date: Late Aug or early Sept 2005
Movable Type Blog Introduction Course Course Outline: Begin with a discussion on the University’s blog policy, the attendeess will be lead through the creation of a blog using Movable Type. They will be taught on the basic blog settings which can be accomplished by graphic user interface. The course will also cover managing author and commentor and posting text/pictures in a blog entry. - Discussing U of S blog policy - Creating a blog - Basic blog settings (non CSS, HTML related settings) o Configuration o Entries o Archiving o Comments o Categories o Trackback - Author management - Commentor management - Posting text and pictures

Movable Type Blog Intermediate/Advanced Course Course Outline: This course is for advanced blog administrators, attendees should have taken the Introduction course prior to attending this course. This course will cover settings that cannot be easily changed with graphic user interface, such as editing CSS and HTML. Some advanced functions will also be introduced and explained. RSS feed is also a topic in this course and attendees will learn how to convert their existing blogs created with other software to Movable Type. - Advanced settings o IP Banning o Template o Dynamic publishing o Automation processes o Sanitize - Importing/exporting - Combating SPAM - RSS feeds (with PAWS and WebCT) Course Duration: 6 – 8 hours (hands on) Effort Required: 70 hours Completion Date: TBD Launch Date: TBD
