Recyclable Materials & Instructions: In addition to newspapers, the following materials may be added to the recycling bins: Glass bottles/jars – remove lids, corks, neck rings, etc. Labels may stay on. No other glass, such as light bulbs, window or auto glass, dishes, glasses, Pyrex, is allowed. Tin, steel and aluminum food cans, and deposit and non-deposit beverage cans – Labels okay. No aluminum foil, no cans containing hazardous material, paint or aerosol Plastic containers – Labeled with a triangle 1 & 2 may flatten. Lids and neck rings may stay on. No motor oil or chemical containers. No plastic bags.
RINSE CONTAINERS CLEAN AND PLACE IN BIN ON YOUR REGULAR RECYCLING DAY. PAPERS SHOULD BE PLACED ON TOP OR NEXT TO BIN (BOUND WITH STRING OR IN PAPER BAGS)
The following materials will not be collected as part of your acceptable recyclable trash pick up: white goods, water heaters, refrigerators, air conditioners, washer/dryer, automobile tires, paint/oil cans, batteries, construction debris televisions and computer monitors. Recyclable trash may be placed curbside after 6:00 p.m. the night prior to pick up and no later than 7:00 a.m. the day of pick up. No more than six (6) bags allowed per dwelling unit. Bags/barrels must not be in excess of fifty (50) pounds. Recycling Collection Schedule: Recycling bins are collected every other week on your regular trash collection day. Please refer to the 2005 Collection Schedule (click here) which was mailed to all households in Lynn . Leaf & Yard Waste Collection: Place in barrels or paper leaf bags. Leaves, grass, and other easily raked material, no plastic bags, branches or stumps. Spring Collection: April 21-25th, May 19-23rd. Drop-Off: Citizens may also drop off leaf and yard waste at the DPW Maintenance Facility, 250 Commercial Street on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from April 1st through December 31st. Allowed materials to be brought to the Facility include: Leaves, grass, and other easily raked materials (loose or in paper leaf bags) and Christmas trees. Do you know what recycled materials are used for? Yard Waste: (grass, leaves, brush) is composted by the DPW, and the compost is used in the parks, cemetery, and landscaped areas throughout the city. Newspapers and Magazines: These are processed into plasterboard, other reusable paper products, and insulation. Aluminum Cans: The cans are made into new metal products. Glass: Glass is recycled into new containers for road building materials. Plastics: Used for toys, drainpipes, carpets, trays, skis and other plastic products.
