Asthma Information: The North Country Asthma Coalition (http://www.ncasthma.org/) mission is to establish a pediatric asthma education network that is accessible to North Country communities. Their website includes information for parents, schools, childcare settings, providers and more. Childhood Overweight & Obesity Resources: The number of children that are overweight or obese is growing, and there are a number of excellent resources for families and kids on–line who are looking for assistance. The following are our top picks: The American Academy of Pediatrics has a sub-site devoted to the prevention and treatment of childhood overweight/obesity, with a section called "What Families Can Do" located here: www.aap.org/obesity/index.html The National Heart Lung & Blood Institute in partnership with other organizations has developed a program called "We Can!". They have materials available on-line for families to review: www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/obesity/wecan/ Kidshape is a program designed to be offered locally, though they have program information available on-line so parents who don't have access to a program close to home can view materials on their site: www.kidshape.com/

The Mayo Clinic always has good information, and they do for this topic as well, including causes, risk factors, coping and support and more: www.mayoclinic.com/health/childhoodobesity/DS00698 The CDC's site starts with information for parents addressing lifestyle, and then continues on to include additional links that I've checked out that are all great including some specific for kids under the "For Kids Only" section at the bottom: www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/children/index.html Staying healthy resources for kids: Body and Mind (http://www.bam.gov/) Kids and Teens Health (http://www.cdc.gov/family/kids/index.htm) College Students (http://www.cdc.gov/family/college/)
