Registered Professional Nurse
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the State Education Department from a course approved by such department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS: Eligibility for a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse. Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License is required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Responsible for management of Public Health Programs which may include: • Communicable Disease Investigations • Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program • Tuberculosis Control Program • Cancer Services • Early Intervention • Pre-School Program • Administer Immunizations to children and adults • Provide nursing care at clinics for specialized populations or illnesses when necessary • Develops work-plans for Grant programs and carries out activities designated in these work plans. Prepares and submits reports as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a professional nursing position involving responsibility for coordinating individual patient care and for performing nursing services requiring substantial specialized judgment and skills. Work is performed under the general direction of a supervisory level nursing position and in accordance with a prescribed nursing care plan. Does related work as required. FULL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques. Ability to work independently and make sound nursing decisions. Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with a diverse audience. Strong organizational skills with ability to work with multiple programs. Computer skills strongly recommended. Working knowledge of dietetics, sanitation and personal hygiene; skill in the application of nursing techniques and practices; ability to understand and follow technical, oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to get along well with patients, physicians and others; ability to carry out successfully the therapeutic measures prescribed; good observation; mental alertness; firmness; initiative; cheerfulness; patience; emotional stability; sympathetic attitude toward the sick; good moral character; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
