CARDIO-PULMONARY ASSISTANT DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is technical work which involves performing EKG' s, echocardiographs on all patients according to medical referrals. The work is performed under the general supervision of higher level cardio-pulmonary personnel with leeway allowed for carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as r equired. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only) Perfor ms echocardiographic scan, calculates and prepares scan results for physician interpretation; Schedules in-patients and outpatients for scans; Performs EKG' s as required; Screens tracings and scans, and notifies physician of any major abnormalities; Maintains records of all tests done; Maintains inventory of supplies and required materials; Assists physician in special studies; Assists staff personnel as directed; Services equipment after each use or as requir ed; Prepares billing information. FULL PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the use and purpose of the echocardiograph and electrocardiograph machines; Good knowledge of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; Ability to read tracings and scans and to recognize abnormalities and arrhythmias in heartbeat; Ability to follow oral and written dir ections; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER: A. (1) Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and (2) six months clinical experience in cardiology or ultrasonography; OR B.
