                                          FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This list of questions and answers has been made available to the entire Alliance membership with the intent to provide all
agencies with the same advantage for applying for a mentee grant. We will update questions as needed throughout the
application process.

FUNCTION QUESTIONS

    1. What is a mentee agency?
A mentee agency is an Alliance member organization that has demonstrated motivation and commitment to grow
         in the field of aging.

    2. What is the role of a mentee agency?
The role of a mentee agency is to learn about serving older adults through a one-to-one mentoring relationship
under the guidance of a mentor (lead) agency.

ELIGIBILITY/PREREQUISITE QUESTIONS

    3. Do we need to be an Alliance member to apply for a grant?
Yes, only Alliance members in good standing with up-to-date membership dues at the time of the proposal
deadline are eligible to apply for a grant through the New Age of Aging.

    4. If I applied for and received a grant during the first cycle Mentoring Initiative (2008-09), can I also apply
for a mentee grant during 2009?
No. An organization that previously received a Mentoring Initiative (mentee or mentor) grant cannot also apply for
         a Mentee grant.

    5. If I applied for and received a New Age of Aging mini-grant, can I also apply for a mentee grant?
Yes. An organization receiving a Mini-grant can also apply for a mentee grant. Each application will be considered
         separately.

    6. Is there a match expectation/requirement for the mentee grant?
No. Organizations are not required to have matching funds to be considered for a grant under the Mentoring
         Initiative.

    7. If I decide not to apply during this current grant cycle, will there be another opportunity for my
         organization to apply?
No. Not during this New Age of Aging grant implementation period. The New Age of Aging initiative is funded
until 2012. This is the last time we will offer re-grants for agencies to participate in the Mentoring Initiative prior
to the end of the New Age of Aging implementation period.

    10. How do I download and save the New Age of Aging Mentee RFP Guidelines and Instructions onto my

First make sure you have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. The New Age of Aging Mentee RFP
Guidelines and Instructions 2009 are a PDF document. If you have any difficulties downloading and saving the
grant RFP Guidelines and Instructions because you do not have Acrobat Reader on your computer, you can
download Acrobat Reader for free at Adobe's website [http://get.adobe.com/reader/] and then follow the
        instructions for installing it.

Once the Adobe Reader software is properly installed, click on a document link to a PDF file and it will load for
viewing on your computer. Note that the file is sent to your computer as a temporary file that will be deleted when
you exit your browser. PDF files are indicated by either the letters [PDF or pdf] or the following graphic following
         the filename .

Microsoft Word document before typing the information into the online grant application. Typing your text in
Microsoft Word will allow you to check for spelling errors and the length of your content prior to cutting and
pasting the information into the online grant application. To help prepare you, the information that you will be
asked to provide is listed in the NARRATIVE section of the New Age of Aging Mentee RFP Guidelines and
        Instructions.

your proposal, you must use the same computer that you initially used to begin filling out the proposal. It is also

        process will be officially closed.

We will utilize staff from member agencies that are not applying for funding and enlist the assistance of local and
        national partners.

    17. How will the proposals be evaluated?
Proposals will be evaluated on a point scale. This information is outlined in New Age of Aging Mentee RFP
Guidelines and Instructions on pages 4 and 5.

    18. Will organizations automatically be excluded or selected for a grant if they have staff that participate on the
Alliance for Children and Families New Age of Aging National Leadership Advisory Committee?
No. National Leadership Advisory Committee member agencies may apply through RFP process just as any other
member agency if they are not participating in reviewing proposals.

PROJECT QUESTIONS

    19. How will mentor and mentee agencies be matched?
In order to assure mentoring relationships are as productive as possible, we will give serious thought to matching
mentees with mentors. Criteria for matching agencies include:
− Reflecting common organizational interests and mission and be of comparable size in terms of
                organizational budget and staffing.
− Regionally positioned as to not conflict with competitive funding opportunities.
− Our goal is to make sure mentee needs are met by matching them with the most appropriate mentor
agency, regardless of location. Shared stipends to offset travel are being offered as a part of the grant
package and will make travel convenient between agencies.

    20. Can I request an agency to be my agency’s mentor?
Yes. We will take into consideration special requests to have a specific agency named as a mentor for the
applying mentee agency. Recommended mentor agencies must meet eligibility guidelines and be willing to
take on the role of your organization’s mentor. Please refer to FAQ number 15 and on page 7 of the New
Age of Aging Mentee Request for Proposals Guidelines and Instructions 2009 for more information.

    21. If selected for a grant may we use the $5,000 as we wish?
Yes and no. The funds are flexible as it relates to implementing activities directly related to the Mentoring
Initiative. However, funds cannot be used for organizational activities not related to the Mentoring Initiative.
