Unemployment in Suffolk County fell .2% in October. Since October 2008, the number of nonfarm jobs in the Nassau Suffolk region has decreased by 39,300, or 3.1 percent, and the number of private sector jobs has decreased by 35,000, or 3.3 percent. The area's unemployment rate was 7.2 percent in October 2009, compared with 7.4 in September and 5.0 in October 2008. Unemployment in Suffolk County remained at 7.5% in September. Since September 2008, the number of nonfarm jobs in the Nassau Suffolk region has decreased by 36,300, or 2.9 percent, and the number of private sector jobs has decreased by 32,800, or 3.1 percent. The area's unemployment rate was 7.4 percent in September 2009, compared with 7.3 in August and 5.1 in September 2008. Unemployment in New York State rose to it’s highest level since 1983. The unemployment rate in Suffolk County lessened from July’s 7.6% to 7.5%. Since August 2008, the number of nonfarm jobs in the Nassau Suffolk region has decreased by 35,500, or 2.8 percent, and the number of private sector jobs has decreased by 37,000, or 3.4 percent. The area's unemployment rate was 7.3 percent in August 2009, compared with 7.4 in July and 5.1 in August 2008. Auxiliary aids and services available upon request to individuals with disabilities. The unemployment rate in Suffolk County increased to 7.3% in January 09. Since January 2008, the number of nonfarm jobs in the Suffolk Nassau region has decreased by 23,400, or 1.9 percent, and the number of private sector jobs has decreased by 23,200, or 2.2 percent. The area's unemployment rate was 6.9 percent in January 2009, compared with 5.8 in December and 4.6 in January 2008. Unemployment in Suffolk County rose to 6.1% in December ‘08, up .7% from November ‘08. Since December 2007, the number of nonfarm jobs in the Suffolk Nassau region has decreased by 18,900, or 1.5 percent, and the number of private sector jobs has decreased by 21,600, or 2.0 percent. The area's unemployment rate was 5.8 percent in December 2008, compared with 5.2 in November and 3.8 in December 2007.
