Subspecializations Child Adolescent and Family Health Subspecialization is available within the Health Specialization. Students must complete the Health Specialization for their chosen concentration. Students substitute SOWK 789 "Social Work Research in Child, Adolescent, and Family Health" for their research option and take SWCL 714, "Social Work Practice in Child, Adolescent and Family Health" as an elective. While fulfilling these requirements, students who choose a secondary concentration if primarily Clinical would choose between SOWK 765 or SWCL 712. They would also take SWOA 703 or SWOA 704 and another SWOA option. If they are primarily MACO and secondarily Clinical, they would take SWCL 700 or SWCL 744. Employee Assistance Program Subspecialization (EAP) Subspecialization is available within the Mental Health Specialization. EAP students must complete the Mental Health Specialization for their chosen concentration and will take specific classes within the mental health specialization to meet the requirements of the EAP Subspecialization. Specifically, all EAP students must take SOWK 725 "Industrial Social Services and Social Policy" for their advanced policy course and will take SWOA 736 "Administering EAPs". Additionally CLINICAL concentration students and students with a clinical secondary concentration (MACO/clinical) must take SWCL 705 "Clinical Social Work with Addictive Behavior Patterns." Students who subspecialize in EAP have the option to concentrate in CLINICAL, CLINICAL/maco, MACO/clinical, or MACO. The primary concentration will determine the student’s advanced field placement which will be located within the EAP field. Substance Abuse Subspecialization is available within the Mental Health Specialization. Students must complete the Mental Health Specialization for their chosen concentration. Students take SOWK 717 "Substance Abuse and Social Policy" for their policy course. This course is only available online. They must also take SWCL 705 "Clinical Social Work with Addictive Behavior Patterns." While fulfilling these requirements, students who choose a secondary concentration if primarily Clinical would choose between SWOA 703 and SWOA 704 and take any other SWOA courses. If they are primarily MACO and secondarily Clinical, they would take SWCL 700 or SWCL 744 and SWCL 705.
PLEASE NOTE: SOWK 799, Master’s thesis, is available to fulfill the research requirement for all concentrations and specializations with special permission.    All Clinical Methods Courses have a SWCL Prefix. All MACO Methods Courses have a SWOA Prefix. Electives – any 700 level course
