WHO ARE WE?
The Pet Therapy Society of Northern Alberta (PeTS) is a registered nonprofit charitable organization. Our programs depend on the energy and commitment of volunteers , who believe in the therapeutic value of companion animals and the human-animal bond. Since 1995, PeTS has provided education programs, services and leadership in animal-assisted therapy and activities relating to the humananimal bond. The activities, programs and operations of the Pet Therapy Society are funded through memberships, program registrations, grants, donations and fundraising efforts. In addition to financial support, PeTS programs are made possible by the contribution of volunteer hours by dedicated volunteers. The Pet Therapy Society is a proud member of Volunteer Canada and the International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organizations (IAHAIO)

WHAT WE DO?
PAWS for a Visit—training, support and
coordination of volunteers and companion animals for animal-assisted therapy and animal-assisted activity programs in health care settings such as hospitals, seniors’ residences, mental health programs and hospices. literacy skills and to encourage the joys of reading. The program is offered in schools, libraries and at the Pet Therapy Society Centre.

PAWS for a Story—an animal-assisted reading mentor program to enhance

PAWSabilities—an animal-assisted activity program designed to enhance
physical, cognitive, emotional, social and leisure development of participants. Activities include arts and crafts, games, music and expressive art and adapted to each client’s interests and abilities.

PAWS to Remember—support and services for individuals having difficulty
coping with the death of a pet. Confidential telephone support, and monthly support meetings.
