Anishnawbe Mushkiki Thunder Bay Aboriginal Community Health Centre Position Title : Early Childhood Educator - Casual Position Responsible to : Health Promotion Coordinator Purpose of this position : Under the authority of the Executive Director, and the daily supervision of the Health Promotion Coordinator, the Early Childhood Educator will be responsible for the delivery of an Aboriginal child development program. The Early Childhood Educator will organize and deliver program activities to Aboriginal children between the ages of two to six years of age in the family centre of Anishnawbe Mushkiki. Duties and Responsibilities : The Early Childhood Educator will be responsible for the following : • Assists with the preparation of activity programs based on the Centre’s philosophy and policies - health promotion, promotion of Aboriginal culture and language, nutrition education, and curriculum development that prepares the child for school readiness, • With the work team, strives to create a happy atmosphere of caring, growth, learning, stimulation , creativity and respect. • Assists in daily program activities designed to stimulate intellectual, physical, spiritual growth of children. • Assists children with their everyday needs, in the development of proper eating, social skills, positive interaction with others, proper language skills, and healthy hygiene practices. • Maintains constant supervision of indoor and outdoor play periods. • Encourages open communication with the parents/caregivers concerning the needs, progress, or concerns of their children. • Maintain appropriate client documentation, statistical information and reports as required. • Takes part in all training sessions and staff meetings. • Performs all other related tasks. Qualifications and Requirements : • Currently enrolled in Early Childcare Education Diploma program, or Native Child and Family Worker Program, or Native Teachers program. • Work experience in a daycare or Nursery school preferred. • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, and the parents/caregivers in the best interest of the child is required. • Experience working with and extensive knowledge of the Anishnabe culture, traditions, and values is required. • Fluency in the Ojibway language is preferred, • Active in promoting healthy lifestyles is required. • Must pass a criminal record check. • Work experience with children is an asset.
