SOAPkidz Sunrise on Africa’s Peaks Kidz Reg Nr. 2006/008482/08 NPO 054 -940 EVENT PROPOSAL SOAPKidz TUT Adventure Tourism Event 17 May 2008 VENUE: ADDRESS: TIME: NO OF CHILDREN: NO OF VOLUNTEERS: Tswane University of Technology(TUT) Campus Pretoria 8:00 – 15:00 60 underprivileged kids form various children’s homes 12 SOAPKidz Volunteers and 15 TUT Adventure Tourism Event Students GOALS & OBJECTIVES: SOAPKidz is a non-profit organisation and our aim is to – create environmental awareness, – promote nature conservation, – teach life skills, while doing fun activities amongst the underprivileged, abused and neglected children Our further objectives for this event will be: Cleaning up of the campus Making sure that all of the children participating have fun while learning. Allow students the opportunity to have hands on experience in organising such an event; working with underprivileged children; and giving back to the community Having every man, woman and child walk away from this project with a sense of pride and respect for themselves, each other and what they have achieved. ACTIVITIES: Our mission statement dictates that any activities must be subject to the following criteria: Must be in nature or nature related and adventure based Must teach the kids a valuable skill (e.g. leadership, communication, how to make something, dancing) Must incorporate an environment clean-up project Must be fun for the kids Preferably involve affiliated organizations / groups ADVENTURE PROGRAM: Brief program description is as follows:: Kids will have tea/coffee and cookies upon arrival. They will then be divided into groups and assigned to group volunteers. Groups will rotate between activities on an hourly rotation schedule to various base stations that have been set up, for adventure, nature and skills activities. Snacks and a light lunch will be brought to the groups during the day. After kids have departed, the volunteers will have a debriefing. Tree Planting Note: Litter will be picked up whilst moving between bases. PRIZES: Prizes are usually small and practical for the kids. These have to be bought or sponsored. Prizes will be given to the following teams based on evaluations done at each base: Overall Winner Most litter collected Team work & Leadership COORDINATION: SOAPKidz will act as facilitators in contacting the children’s homes and providing SOAPKidz volunteers, plastic bags for clean-up and name tags. TUT Adventure Tourism students to approach potential sponsors in the area. Sponsors to date: Organisation TBD Donation CHILDREN: Kids from Safe houses, Children’s homes, Orphanages, and other under privileged or abused kids are invited. Boys and girls between the ages of 10 to 16 will be attending the event. Children will be under adult supervision at all times, with group volunteers assigned to small groups of kids. There is always a first aid person on site and we try to keep everything as planned and controlled as possible. Note: Transport to and from the event needs to be arranged, as none of the homes nor SOAPKidz have a bus or funds for transport available.
