					                YOUTH ENTERPRISE MENTORSHIP SERVICE

                  MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FORM

1. Background information

Volunteer Enterprise Mentorship Programme is a programme that provides
mentorship support to youth businesses. Mentors and young entrepreneurs are
assessed, qualified and matched to form an ongoing mentoring relationship
aimed at improving the sustainability and growth of a start up or existing
businesses of South African young entrepreneurs.

2. Programme objectives

The main objectives of the programme are to:

      Transfer business skills and knowledge among South African young
       entrepreneurs;
      Increase sustainability and growth chances of youth businesses;

3. Forms of mentorship support provided

The mentoring services provided will entail:

3.1 One-on-one generalist business mentoring

Young entrepreneurs are matched with generalist mentors who will provide day
to day support in the running of the business.

3.2 Specialist mentoring

Mentors with special skills and expertise such as lawyers, chartered accountants,
engineers, etc. will provide technical support to compliment generalist mentors.
3.3 Group mentoring

Group mentoring seminars will be held quarterly where expert and/or specialist
will provide advice and share insights on different business management
aspects.

3.4 Peer mentoring

The programme will also facilitate learning forums among young entrepreneurs
within the same sector and geographical locations. This will create “learning sets’
that will enable young entrepreneurs to learn from each other and provide mutual
support

4. Who qualifies to participate in the programme?

       South African citizen between 18 and 35 of age or must have at least 26%
        ownership in the business;
       Women businesses of any age;
       Start up or existing businesses;
       Micro or small enterprises
       Need to be assisted in restructuring, sustaining or growing their business;
       Need help to implement a business plan;
       Must have inspiring vision for self and their businesses.

5. Why is mentoring important to my business?

Mentoring allows young entrepreneurs to benefit from the knowledge and
experience of experienced business people whom they would not normally have
access to. Mentors provide motivation, guidance and advice to young
entrepreneurs in the management of their business. They work alongside the
young entrepreneur to ensure that the business has the best possible chance of
sustaining and growing. Mentoring provides the following benefits:

       A supportive environment within which to evaluate business successes
        and failures;
       Encouragement and support;
       New skills and knowledge;
       Networking opportunities;
       New or different perspective;
       An objective source of advice and guidance;
       Possibly market linkages.
6. What will be the role of the mentor?

      Help the young entrepreneur develop and implement an action plan for
       their personal, professional and business growth.
      Guide the young entrepreneur through the different stages of a developing
       business;
      Help plan the growth and development of the business;
      Monitor the progress of the business and provide relevant advice;
      Help identify potential business difficulties, and help the young
       entrepreneur to solve them before they occur.
      Transfer business experience and knowledge to accelerate the young
       entrepreneur’s learning;
      Provide networking opportunities and show the young entrepreneur
       alternative opportunities in the local business community;
      Provide information, guidance, encouragement and constructive
       comments;
      Act as a sounding board for new ideas and concerns.

7. How will confidentiality of my business information be protected?

Upon acceptance into the programme, mentors will be required to sign a
mentoring agreement agreeing to:

   Confidentiality

      Keep information on the young entrepreneur and his / her business
       confidential and within the boundaries of the programme, unless the
       young entrepreneur explicitly waivers this ruling;
      Safeguard all plans and other materials provided as part of the mentoring
       assignment.

Conflict of Interest

      Not accept a mentoring assignment where the mentor may have a
       financial or commercial interest in the business of the young entrepreneur;

Undertake not to use any business information obtained during the mentoring
assignment for the mentor’s own benefit or any organisation to which the mentor
is affiliated, or in a manner which will prejudice the young entrepreneur and his /
her business
8. How will a mentor be allocated to me?

      A young Entrepreneur outlines his/her business goals and mentoring
       needs at the application stage;
      Young Entrepreneur is provided with profiles of possible mentors to
       choose from;
      Interview between the Young Entrepreneur and short-listed mentors is
       arranged at the retail outlet or UYF nominated agent;
      Young Entrepreneur makes a final choice and provided the mentor also
       accepts the young entrepreneur, the matching is completed;
      Before mentoring begins, mentor and young entrepreneur work out
       relationship terms, parameters and goals.

9. How long will the mentoring relationship be?

The mentoring relationship shall be set for the period of between 18 months and
24 months provided that there is still a need for the relationship to continue.
In the situation where the mentor is no longer available to participate in the
programme, the UYF will facilitate a smooth relationship closure and assist the
entrepreneur find a new mentor.

10. How do I apply?

      Young Entrepreneur applies for mentoring support outlining his/her
       business goals and mentoring needs to achieve these goals through the
       retail outlet or UYF nominated agent;
      Invited to the assessment interview;
      Attend an orientation and training programme that provides overview of
       the programme, clarifies roles, responsibilities and expectation;
      Matched within 3 months after approval
