RE: DRAFT CITY OF CAPE TOWN EVENTS POLICY: INVITATION – EVENTS INDUSTRY
    HEARING – WEDNESDAY 14 MAY 14h00 – 17h00 CIVIC CENTRE CAPE TOWN

The Economic and Human Development and Sports and Recreation Departments have developed
a draft City of Cape Town Events Policy.

Events are key drivers of economic growth and support the City’s strategic and IDP objectives, as
well as support the City’s global competitiveness, image and small business and developmental
objectives. Events assist to support urban rejuvenation and cultural and social cohesion,
communities are central for making events successful.

The Draft City of Cape Town Events Policy was tabled at all Portfolio Committees in April and will
be tabled at SubCouncils at their monthly meetings in May.

Copies of the draft policy are attached, and will be available at libraries, Sub Council offices and
are on the City’s website at www.capetown.gov.za/policies. Xhosa and Afrikaans translations of
the Policy are in process and will be available on the City’s website soon.

A public participation process including external stakeholders will be followed in May 2008 which
includes a hearing specifically for the events industry stakeholders.

The detail of the hearing is as follows:
 Wednesday, 14 May 2008
   14h00 – 17h00
   Meeting Room 1, 6th Floor, Podium Block, Civic Centre, 12 Hertzog Boulevard, Cape
   Town

(Additional hearings for the public and other interested parties will be held on Tuesday 13 May and
20th May 2008. Refer press or the website above for details).

We encourage you or a representative of your organisation to attend the above event industry
stakeholder hearing.

Allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, requests for 15 minute presentation opportunities at
the above hearing may be registered beforehand with the Economic and Human Development
Department by email to Events.Policy@capetown.gov.za or telephonically on 021 4839020 no later
than 12h00 on 12th May 2008. A written copy of submissions will be required on the day.

Please note that written comments on the draft City of Cape Town Events Policy must reach
Council on or before the closing date of 30 May 2008 and may be submitted as follows:
