POINT SYSTEM

									POINT SYSTEM
THE POINT SYSTEM IS STRUCTURED SO THAT THE RULES DO NOT ENFORCE THE
ANGLER TO RELEASE, BUT LEAVE THE DECISION TO THE ANGLER. IF YOU WANT TO
BE IN THE RUN FOR PRIZES, THE RIGHT THING TO DO WILL BE TO RELEASE MARLIN
UP TO 140KG.

IN THE PAST THE ONLY WAY TO BEAT A GOOD SIZE FISH WAS TO CATCH A BIGGER
ONE. WITH THE POINT SYSTEM YOU CAN NOW BEAT THAT ONE LARGE FISH BY
RELEASING A COMBINATION OF SMALLER BILLFISH SPECIES WHICH WE BELIEVE IS
THE MORE SKILLED ANGLER THAT TAKE THE HONOURS.

ALTHOUGH YOUR ONLY GUARANTEE FOR POINTS ON RELEASED FISH IS YOUR
PHOTO WITH THE DISPOSABLE CAMERA ISUED TO YOU, I BELIEVE THAT THE TRUE
SPORTSMAN WILLCOME OUT FROM EACH ANGLER. THAT’S WHY YOU WERE
INVITED.

PLEASE SEE THIS POINT SYSTEM ONLY AS THE BEGINNING OF OUR STRIVE TOWARDS
CONSERVATION AND A FAIR COMPETITION AND NOT THE END.

      RULES AND POINT SYSTEM
STRIPED MARLIN RARELY GETS OVER 100KG AT SODWANA AND AGAIN IT IS VERY
DIFFICULT TO IDENTIFY THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SMALL BLUE AND
STRIPED MARLIN WHILE ON THE LEADER. THEREFORE IT WILL COUNT AS (1)
ONE SPECIE. BLACK MARLIN IS EASY TO IDENTIFY IN THE WATER OR ON A
PHOTO THEREFORE WILL COUNT AS A SPECIE BONUS POINT. THE BOAT WILL
QUALIFY FOR BONUS POINTS ON RELEASED AND WEIGHABLE FISH AFTER THEIR
FIRST FISH AS I BELIEVE THE MORE CONSISTENT CREW BE RATED HIGHER THAN
THE LUCKY CREW CATCHING ONE BIG FISH. AS THERE IS ALSO A CERTAIN
AMOUNT OF SKILL TO TARGET DIFFERENT SPECIES YOU WILL GET SPECIE
   BONUS POINTS.

h) If two (2) boats happen to end on the same points for a prize, the following
    criteria will
   determine the winner.

                      (a) The boat with the most release Points
If still a tie (b) The Boat with the most Species
If still a tie (c) The Boat who entered and paid their fees first

i) Marlin boated under the minimum weight of 100Kg will be penalized with 140
       Points.

As you can see the thinking behind the point system is that your success will be
determined more by skill than by luck. The competition can not be won on the
Monday anymore but will only be final Friday afternoon 15h00.
