B. JOB PURPOSE

     To perform all aspects of varied innovative and complex GIS / Geo Informatics or related fields
     activities that result in progressive technology for GIS applications.

C. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

C .1 Data capturing and manipulation

     (a) Manage the collection, visualisation and capturing of data from various formats and
         sources

     (i) Implement conversion of data files from analog to digital format
     (ii) Advise on coordinate systems and projections
     (iii) Implement data quality and classification systems
     (iv) Populate the electronic metadata catalogue
     (v) Manage and undertake the analysis and visualisation of data to meet the stated
              requirements
     (vi) Manage, design and implement a database to store the required data sets

C.2 Professional Ethics

     (b) Operate effectively as a GIS Professional in a professional practice.

     (i) Projects are managed according to specification, on time and within budget
     (ii) Ethical principles are applied in all decisions
     (iii)Team members are managed in such a way that optimal performance is achieved.

F. APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS

   Minimum appointment requirements

  a) NQF Level 8 (Masters degree in Geomatics/Survey/Geography or related field)
  b) 4 years GIS experience before GIS Professional board exam
  c) Valid driver’s licence.

   Professional appointment requirements

  a) Existing registration as GIS Professional
  b) Registration with PLATO as GIS Professional

H. AMENDMENTS TO JOB DESCRIPTION

  The Head of Department or his/her nominee reserves the right to make changes and
  alterations to this job description, as he/she may deem reasonable, after due consultation with
  the post holder.

I. PERFORMANCE AGREEMENT

  The Performance Agreement of the incumbent, which contains a work plan and specific target
  dates, should be read as an extension of this job description. The performance agreement may
  also contain an annexure outlining any standard operating procedures that the incumbent
  should adhere to during the execution of his/her key performance areas.
