                            (Saturday 2—8 July 2005)
                              EVENING PRAYER
Leader:   The light and peace of Christ be with you all;
All: And also with you.
Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
All: Who is worthy of all thanksgiving and praise.
Leader: Blessed be God, Father, son and Holy Spirit.
All: Blessed be God forever!
Hail gladdening light of his pure glory poured,
who is the immortal Father heavenly blest,
Holiest of holies, Jesus Christ our Lord
Now we are come to the sun’s hour of rest
the lights of evening round us shine,
we hymn the Father,
Son and Holy Spirit divine
Worthiest art Thou at all times to be sung
With undefiled tongue
Son of our God, giver of life, alone:
Therefore in all the world thy glories, Lord, they own.
Let us call to mind and confess our sins.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father
in penitence we confess
that we have sinned against you
 through our own fault
in thought, word, and deed
and in what we have left undone.
For the sake of your Son, Christ our Lord
forgive us all that is past
and grant that we may serve you
 in newness of life
to the glory of your Name.
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and keep us in eternal life; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Glory to God Source of all being, eternal Word and Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now and shall be forever. Amen
Beloved let us love one another, for love is of God: everyone who loves is born of God
Whoever does not love does not know God: for God is love
In this the love of God was revealed among us: that God sent his only Son into the world,
so that we might live through him.
In this is love, not that we loved God but that God loved us: and sent the Son to be the
expiation for our sins.
Beloved, since God loved us so much: we ought also to love one another.
For if we love one another, God abides in us: and God‟s love will be perfected in us.
After a silence, the canticle prayer
Eternal God, make us to be a kingdom of love, that in all things your love may come to
Into your hands, O Lord I commend my spirit
Into your hands, O Lord I commend my spirit
For you have redeemed me, Lord God of truth
I commend my spirit
Glory to God, Source of all being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit, as it was in the
beginning is now, and shall be for ever. Amen
Into your hands, O Lord I commend my spirit
Keep me as the apple of your eye.
Hide me under the shadow of your wings.
THE PRAYERS (Particular Thanksgiving/Intercessions may be offered by the Officiant)
The prayers are concluded with the following versicles and responses.
Have mercy, O Lord, upon us as we have hoped in you.
Lord, have mercy
Give justice to the orphan and the oppressed and break the power of greed and
Christ, have mercy
Lord, hear our prayer and answer us in your righteousness.
Lord, have mercy

Almighty God, who called your Church to witness that you were reconciling the world to
yourself: help us so to proclaim the good news of your love that all who hear it may be
reconciled to you; through him who died for us and rose again and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
Almighty God, by triumphing over the powers of darkness Christ has prepared a place for
us in the new Jerusalem: may we, who have this day given thanks for his resurrection,
praise him in the eternal city of which he is light:
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer: Each in the language of their choice

Leader: Let us bless the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God!

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no
secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy
Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord.Amen

THE KYRIES (In the language of the Officiants Choice)
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy

God has promised forgiveness to all who truly repent,
Turn to Christ in faith and are themselves forgiving.

Let us confess our sins.
Merciful God, we have sinned in what we have thought and said,
In the wrong we have done and in the good we have not done.
We have sinned in ignorance: we have sinned in weakness:
We have sinned through our own deliberate fault.
We are truly sorry.
We repent and turn to you. Forgive us for our Saviour Christ’s sake,
And renew our lives to the glory of your name.
Absolution and collect by the presider
Through the cross of Christ, God have mercy on you, pardon you and set you free.
Know that you are forgiven and be at peace.
God strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in life eternal. Amen.

The first reading
The appointed Psalm
The Gospel

Loving God, you have promised to hear us when we pray in the name of Jesus. Therefore
in confidence we pray for the Church.
(Particular thanksgivings/intercession may be offered by the Officiant)
Gracious God,
enliven the Church for its mission
That we may be salt of the earth and light to the world.
Breathe fresh life into your people
Give us power to reveal Christ in word and action

We pray for the world:
(Particular thanksgivings/intercession may be offered by the Officiant)
Creator of all, lead us and every people into ways of justice and peace
That we may respect one another in freedom and truth
Awaken in us a sense of wonder for the earth and all that is in it.
Teach to care creatively for its resources.
We pray for the community.
(Particular thanksgivings/intercession may be offered by the Officiant)
God of truth, inspire with your wisdom those whose decisions affect the lives of others
That all may act with integrity and courage
Give grace to all whose lives are linked with ours.
May we serve Christ in one another, and love as he loves us.
We pray for those in need
(Particular thanksgivings/intercession may be offered by the Officiant)
God of hope, comfort and restore all who suffer in body, mind or spirit
May they know the power of your healing love.
Make us willing agents of your compassion.
Strengthen us as we share in making people whole.
We remember those who have died and those who mourn:
We remember with thanksgiving those who have died in the faith of Christ, and those
whose faith is known to you alone.
Father, into your hands we commend them
Give comfort to those who mourn
Bring them peace in their time of loss
We praise you for (N and) all your saints who have entered your eternal glory
May their example inspire and encourage us.
We pray for ourselves and our ministries:
(The prayers concludes with one of the following)
Lord you have called us to serve you
Grant that we may walk in your presence:
your love in our hearts, your truth in our minds, your strength in our wills
until, at the end of our journey, we know the joy of our homecoming and the
welcome of your embrace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Your word is a lamp for our feet
In darkness and light, in trouble and in joy, help us, Creator God, to trust your love,
to serve your purpose, and to praise your name, through Jesus Christ our Friend
and Brother. Amen
The peace of Christ be with you always.
Peace be with you

Bless, O Lord, we beseech you, these your gifts and sanctify them unto this holy use, that
by them we may be fed unto everlasting life of soul and body; through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen
The Lord be with you
And also with you
Lift up your hearts
We lift them up to the Lord
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
It is right and indeed our duty and joy, Lord and heavenly father, God almighty and
eternal, always and everywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ, your only Son
our Lord.
Because through him you have created everything from the beginning and formed us in
your own image:
Through him you delivered us from the slavery of sin, when you gave him to be born as
man, to die on the cross and to rise again for us;
Through him you claimed us as your own people when you enthroned him with you in
heaven, and through him sent your Holy Spirit, the giver of life;
Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we acclaim
you and declare the greatness of your glory; we praise you now and for ever saying:
Holy, holy, holy Lord . God of power and might heaven and earth are full of your
Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
Hear us merciful father, through your Son Christ our Lord, through him accept our
offering of thanks and praise, and send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts of bread and
wine that they may be to us his body and blood.
For on the night that he was betrayed, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he
broke it and gave it to his disciples saying, „Take this and eat; this is my body which is
given for you; do this in remembrance of me‟.
So too after supper he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them
saying, „Drink of it all of you; for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for
you and for many for the forgiveness of sins, whenever you drink it, do this in
remembrance of me‟.
So we acclaim the victory of Christ.
Dying you destroyed our death
rising you restored our life
Lord Jesus, come in glory.
So we proclaim the mystery of faith.
Glory to you, Lord Christ;
Your death we show forth;
Your resurrection we proclaim;
Your coming we await;
Amen! Come Lord Jesus.
Holy God with these your gifts, we your people celebrate before you the one perfect
sacrifice of Christ our Lord, his rising from the dead and his glorious ascending to the
glory of heaven.
Gracious Lord accept us in him, unworthy though we are, so that we who share in the
body and blood of your Son may be made one with all your people of this and every age.
Grant that as we await the coming of Christ our Saviour in glory and triumph of his
kingdom, we may daily grow into his likeness; with whom, and in whom, and through
whom, by the power of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour be given to you, almighty
Father, by the whole company of earth and heaven, throughout all ages, now and for ever.

The bread we break, is it not a sharing of the body of Christ?
We who are many, are one body
For, we all partake of the one bread.
Jesus, Lamb of God: have mercy on us
Jesus, bearer of our sins: have mercy on us
Jesus, redeemer of the world: give us your peace.

Lord Jesus, help us to draw near to your table
with obedient hearts,
in response to your invitation; with penitent hearts, knowing that you are present to
meet with us;
with grateful hearts, as those for whom your body was broken, your blood shed.
Make us ready to receive all that you have for us, and to give all of ourselves to you;
for your great love’s sake.
Lord the feast is yours, it is your table to which we come to be your guests.
It is your presence we seek,
Your body and blood of which we partake.
Help us to draw near with expectant hearts and a living faith,
To receive as from your hands the bread of life, the cup of salvation, and so to find
refreshment, strength and peace for your love’s sake.
Draw near and receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his
blood which he shed for you. Feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.
Give thanks to God for God is gracious.
God’s mercy endures for ever.
Lord Jesus Christ we thank for giving us the sacrament of Holy Communion, to be to us
and your whole Church a memorial of your passion, a pledge of your redeeming love, a
means of spiritual grace, and a foretaste of the heavenly banquet.
Make these things real to us, O Christ, when we partake of the sacrament. Above all,
make yourself real to us, as our living Saviour and Lord, ever to be honoured, worshipped
and adored.

The peace of God which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the
knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of
God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with
you always. Amen
Praise God from whom all blessings flow, praise Him ye creatures here below.
Praise Him above the angel host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen
Loku kudl’esikudlayo, sikuphiwe nguwe. Nalamanzi s’waselayo siwaphiwe nguwe.
The Kyries, Sursum Corda, Agnus Dei and the Lord‟s prayer may be sung or said in
