INTRODUCTION
The Mintel database provides UK and European consumer market research and related trade news abstracts. The
reports available on the database cover the following series:

Note: Mintel is one of several market research resources available to consult., other resources include

ACCESSING THE DATABASE

•   Mintel can be accessed via the Electronic Resources section of the MBS Library Website:

    http://www.mbs.ac.uk/library

•   Select “Databases”, “Market Research”

•   Your Central University username and password is required for off-campus access


SEARCHING THE DATABASE

USING MY REPORTS

•   Select either “My Reports” to display a the available reports by collections
•   Select a report category to display a list of available reports (you can sort by date or a-z)
•   Select a report title to display the table of contents

USING REPORT CATEGORIES

•   Select one of the Categories tab and choose from an industry sector, eg: drink and tobacco
•   Select “See all reports” from the Latest Report box
•   Select a report title to display the table of contents


USING THE QUICK SEARCH OPTION

•   Enter search term in the quick search box at the top right hand corner of the screen Eg: Chocolate
•   A list of relevant reports containing the search terms will be displayed
•   Select a report title to display the table of contents
VIEWING/DOWNLOADING REPORT SECTIONS

•   Select a report using one of the search options to display the table of contents
•   Select one of the report sections to display the content
•   The section or parts of this section can be copied and pasted into a word document or the whole section can be
    downloaded.

To Download the section

•   select “Download section” on the left hand menu
Either
•   select “Open” to view the document as a word document, select “File”, “Save As” and save as a word document
OR
•   Select “Save” to download directly as a word document


DOWNLOADING WHOLE REPORT/MULTIPLE SECTIONS

It is possible to download a whole report or sections from a variety of reports into one or more documents using the Export
feature.

•   Select a report using one of the search options to display the table of contents
•   Select a section to display the section content
•   Select “Export” from the left hand menu
•   A message will be displayed “1 item has been added to your export basket. You will now be returned back to the
    previous page”
•   Select “Back” from the left hand menu to return to the report table of contents
•   Select and export as many sections from as many reports as required
•   Select “Export Basket” from the top right hand corner
•   A list of all the selected sections will be displayed
•   Tick the checkboxes of the sections you want to dowload
•   Select “Download rtf” on the left hand menu
Either
•   Select “Open” to view the document as a word document, select “File”, “Save As” and save as a word document
OR
•   Select “Save” to download directly as a word document


FURTHER OPTIONS

News
Details of relevant industry news will be displayed next to the report section or select the “News” tab to view all trade news
by month

To view / download either:
•   Select the underlined text heading
OR
•   Tick required checkboxes, Select “Download rtf” from the left hand menu, either “Open” to save as a word document
    or “Save” to download directly as a word document
