Planning the perfect surprise party can be a daunting task. And planning a surprise for curious kids
can be even harder. It doesn’t have to be an impossible task. Keep a lid on your children’s surprise
party with the right birthday invitations. And read on to learn a few more tips for a great children’s
surprise party.

A surprise party for adults can be tricky. Now imagine a surprise party for kids - - - you’re going to
need some help. With a few simple tips for invitations and some great surprise party ideas, you’ll be on
your way to an excellent surprise for your birthday kid.

The surprise invitation

Most kids will have a real hard time trying to keep a secret – especially when it is something as good
as a party. You don’t want to risk a slip-up at school or on the playground. Instead of sending surprise
birthday invitations to the kids guests, send them to the parents. This way, you’ll be able to make sure
your children’s friends can come to the party and not risk blowing the surprise. While you may have a
theme for your child’s surprise party, you might want to keep this birthday invitation more subtle. You
don’t want to give any clues to children with wagging tongues. It is probably a good idea to get the
parents involved here too, as you might need help with a ‘fake’ activity for your guest of honor.

Sending birthday invitations to parents or babysitters

While you’ll need their help in getting their child to the party and keeping the secret, you might want to
consider sending an actual birthday invitation to the parents as well. This is a great chance for you to
get to know your child’s friends parents. And their help at the party might be critical if you’re expecting
a large group. If you don’t want to send invitations to the parents, you might want to consider hiring a
babysitter or two to help you out. You want to enjoy your child’s party also, not be overwhelmed by
partying children.

Decorating for your Children’s surprise party

Once your birthday guest of honor is out of the house get your other kid guests over to help decorate.
Make a special note on the birthday invitation that you’d like some help with the decorations and pretty
soon you’ll have all the help you need. You might also enlist the help of parents and teachers when

thinking of a theme for your surprise party. Once the house is decorated, you’ll have to close the
drapes on the windows, so the guest of honor doesn’t see until they’ve entered the house. You might
want to have a ‘quiet’ party activity in mind so your boisterous guests don’t give away your surprise as
the guest of honor is arriving.

Location, location, location

As you well know, kids need entertainment. It’s not enough for them to yell ‘surprise’ and be
entertained for the afternoon. Consider sending your birthday invitations for an afternoon at a
kid-friendly restaurant, arcade, ice cream parlor, Movie Theater or your child’s favorite store. This will
not only help with the entertainment, but will be a great way to keep your birthday party secret. Once
the birthday invitations go out, you don’t have to worry about making any more plans for your home.
Check with your favorite store or amusement location for more information on making this the perfect
location for your child’s surprise party.

A few simple tricks and some planning can make any party for your child easy. Make sure your
birthday invitations are clear and sent to the grown-ups for added secret keeping and you’re off to a
great start.

A person is never too young to enjoy a surprise birthday party, kids included. If you’re considering
giving your child a surprise party this year, read on for some great ideas that will not only surprise him,
but give him lasting memories of a great birthday.

How to Plan a Kids Surprise Birthday Party

Kids often have a difficult time keeping a surprise party under wraps, so you might consider,
depending on the ages of the kids, simply mailing the birthday invitations to the parents and informing
them to keep the party a secret until the date gets closer. This way, the kids are less likely to
accidentally spoil the surprise for the guest of honor.
You don’t have to go overboard and blow your budget with an elaborate surprise party, but you should
have a theme and some activities lined up that are age appropriate and will entertain your guests for
the duration of the party.

Movie Extravaganza

Kids love entertainment, and you could throw a surprise movie celebration. Send out birthday
invitations with movie reels on them, but clearly indicate that you are throwing a surprise party.

You could tell your child that you are going to the movies to celebrate his birthday, and then surprise
him with a group of his friends gathered outside the theater to join him. Afterwards, everyone could go
out for pizza and talk about the movie.

You could also bring a movie party home by renting several movies in one genre, like action movies or
romantic comedies, for example. Then, invite a group of friends over to surprise the birthday girl, enjoy
some dinner, cake, snacks and soda while they watch movies. You might even organize a surprise
sleepover and arrange for guests to spend the night.

Ice Cream

Another budget-friendly surprise party option would be to host an ice cream social. You could easily
host this type of party in your home, and through the birthday invitation, even ask guests to bring their
favorite ice cream sundae topping to share. An hour or two before the party, get the guest of honor out
of the house so you can set up for the party – you might even send your child to a friend’s house
(who’s in on the surprise) until it’s time for the party.

Bowling Party

Kids have a lot of energy, and what better way to expel that energy than by going bowling? Send out
surprise birthday party invitations featuring bowling pins and balls, and let everyone know to bring their
bowling shoes, if they have them. If you will be paying for the rental of bowling shoes, indicate this on
the birthday invitation as well.
You could simply tell your child that the family is celebrating with a quiet afternoon of bowling, but
have a group of your child’s friends gather at the bowling alley to surprise her once she arrives. You

could have your spouse or friend get to the bowling alley early to make sure everyone arrives and gets
into position to jump out once you arrive. You might even decorate the birthday lanes with balloons,
streamers, and a happy birthday banner.

Pool Party

If your child’s birthday falls in the summer, you might consider a pool party at your neighborhood pool.
Of course, if your child’s birthday occurs during a colder month, you could find an indoor pool, perhaps
at your community center, that would host a winter pool party. You could organize games like Marco
Polo or water volleyball for the kids until it’s time to get out and enjoy some birthday cake. Make sure
you send out birthday invitations that show the swimming theme so that all children arrive with their
swimming trunks and towels.

Whatever type of surprise party you plan, it’s sure to be a success and ensure your child’s birthday is
unforgettable.
