                            Western Neighborhood Outreach Center
520 Garfield Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311

                                                    Announcements
 On March 12th, 23 children and 2 adults attended our monthly birthday party. Everyone was split into
two teams and we had an Olympic style event to determine the champions. The kids played various board
games, video games and computer games to accumulate points for their team. In the end, the team of Mark
Watkins, Tyler Watkins, Dylan Stokes, Kyle Pursely, Travis Ransbottom, Logan Hensley, Bradley Hughes,
Mike Justin, Zavier Ziegler and Zach Ziegler ended up with the most points after the events. After the events,
everyone enjoyed cupcakes, juice and brownies brought by Gina Ziegler.

 The center hosted its monthly Parent Dinner on March 26th and there were 26 children and 10 adults in
attendance. The kids and parents enjoyed homemade pizza from Gina Ziegler’s special recipe and four
different kinds of pies. Once again, the kids did a great job setting up the tables, preparing the meal, serving
their parents and cleaning up afterward. This month, we will have the Parent Dinner on April 23rd.

 The Center hosted an Easter Party on Friday, March 21st and there were 29 children and 5 adults who
attended. We had an Easter egg hunt, egg coloring, games and snacks for everyone. Many of the kids found
the special eggs around the center and won special “treats” from the Easter Bunny. Even though the weather
did not cooperate, thank you for those who attended!

 We have started a new program at the Center to teach kids about a wide range of topics that they select. The
program will be each Monday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Last month, 42 kids and 2 adults participated in the
program and talked about single parenting and living in single parent homes. The kids completed a video skit
about single parenting for other kids to watch at the Center to teach them about the challenges of being a single
parent. We also discussed fire and tornado safety and implemented evacuation plans for each at the Center.

 The Center continues to offer homework help after school every Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to
5:00 p.m. The Center also has six computers with Internet access in case someone needs to look up something
for a report, science project, etc. Last month, we had 237 total children attend the program to get help with
                                                            their homework.

 We have also started to have Activity Nights at the Center where those in attendance play games or other
activities to earn points. Last month, there were 63 children and 5 adults participated in the events to earn
points. We have had board game tournaments, foosball tournaments, scavenger hunts, and Xbox 360
                                                            tournaments.

The center offers to do odd jobs for residents in the Western Neighborhood. Children earn points by shoveling
sidewalks and driveways and picking up sticks and trash in the neighborhood. If you know of anyone who may need
help with odd jobs, call Aaron or Bill at 593-1449

                                            Quote of the Month
“In the fields and woods more than anything else all things come to those who wait, because all things are on the
move, and are sure sooner or later to come your way. To absorb a thing is better than to learn it, and we absorb what
we enjoy. We learn things at school; we absorb them in the fields and woods.” –John Burroughs
