EGYPTIAN MAU CLUB SHOW – 5 APRIL 2008

MICHELE CODD

It was a delight to judge at the breed club’s 3rd Exemption Show; congratulations to Monica

and Jim on another successful show, and thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their lovely

cats. My steward was Helen Wicks, who had never stewarded before, but showed care,

enthusiasm and great interest throughout the day; many thanks for your help. The light was

poor, so my assessments of eye colour were rather tentative, especially for the exhibits

furthest from the windows.

Silver Adult Male: 1 BOB and I was delighted later to award him Best in Show Adult

JATER’S CH NEWKINGDOM ANOK FERO, was reluctant to come out of his pen but, once

out, he was friendly and easy to handle. He has quite a short wedge, with good rounded

planes and muzzle; in profile, he has a gentle concave dip at the nose, and very pleasing firm

chin. From the front, he has very good parallel nose lines, and large eyes shaped like

rounded almonds, under a level brow, with a very typically worried expression. Ears are

medium sized, set to follow the lines of his head. Muscular body of medium length; elegant

legs and good feet; tapering tail of medium length. His coat is medium in length, resilient in

texture, with a clear silver base and separated black spotting against a paler ground; 2

HIGGINS & KENNEDY’S CH STARSAILOR RA HARAKHET, sweet-tempered chap, just over

a year in age, with a medium wedge with a good gently rounded muzzle; in profile, he has

rather a straight nose, and his chin recedes a little, but he has a level bite. From the front, he

has parallel nose lines, although his nose is narrower than the winner’s; he has eyes of

rounded almond shape set under a level brow. Ears are medium in size, set to follow the

lines of his head. Of medium size, he has an elegant body and legs, tail of medium length.

Coat has resilient texture with good silver base coat and dark spotting against a fairly pale

ground; 3 HIGGINS & KENNEDY’S CH ADFURSH SOHBEK, elegant boy, with a medium
wedge, looking a little too pointed at the muzzle; in profile, he has a rather straight nose, level

chin. From the front, his nose tends to become slightly narrower towards the leather, so

losing the parallel look; he has very good rounded almond-shaped eyes set under a level

brow. Ears are moderately large and follow the lines of his head. Very good, elegant and

muscular body of medium size, proportionate legs and good paws, tail of medium length and

thickness. His coat is silken in texture, lying very close, clear silver base with lovely broken

black spotting on his spine, the spots becoming very pale on his sides and tummy, against a

very pale ground.

Female: 3 smashing girls. 1 HIGGINS & KENNEDY’S GR CH ADCINSH SOBEKOTEP

MWSHERI, mature girl, enjoying her day out. Medium wedge without flat planes, lovely

rounded muzzle; in profile, she has a correct concave dip at the nose and firm chin. From the

front, she has correct parallel nose lines, and lovely expressive eyes, rounded almond in

shape, set under a level brow. Moderately large ears follow the lines of her head. Of medium

size, she is rather plump at present, with elegant legs and good paws, her tail looks a little

short to balance. Her coat has fairly resilient texture and a good silver base, with a lovely

broken spine line and correct spotting, although I would prefer better contrast between spots

and her pale ground colour. Very close between her and the male for BOB, as I loved her

head, but preferred his body and coat; 2 PEASLAND’S OITAMONSSON SAFIYA, noisy girl,

with a medium wedge, fairly rounded at the muzzle; in profile, she has a correct gentle

concave dip at the nose, chin is level but a little shallow. From the front, she has good

parallel nose lines and eyes are rounded almond in shape set under a level brow. Ears of

very good size, set to follow the lines of her head. Balanced body of medium length; elegant

legs with neat paws; tail of medium length. Her coat is close-lying, medium in length, with

superb contrast between her black spots and pale ground colour; good silver base. She

shows some minor linkage of a few spots on her sides; 3 BURROWS’ JAZZMAUSIC
NEFERTARI, medium wedge with slightly rounded muzzle; in profile, her nose is a little too

straight, she has a firm chin. From the front, she has good parallel nose lines, eyes are

rounded almond in shape, set under a level brow. Moderately large ears are well set to follow

the lines of her head. Quite a small girl, she is still immature, but has a lithe and elegant

body, good legs & paws, tail of medium length. Her coat has correct resilient texture, with a

pleasing silver base, and lots of little, separate dark spots against a rather dark ground.

Bronze Adult Male: 1 LLOYDS’ SHANTARNIA KHEPHREN, medium wedge with rounded

muzzle; in profile, he has only a slight concave dip at the nose, level chin. From the front, he

has very good parallel nose lines and eyes are rounded almond in shape, set under a level

brow. He was inclined to hold his moderately large ears a little too high. Still rather immature

(he’s only just a year), his body is lithe and elegant, with good legs & paws, tail of medium

length. His coat is close-lying and silken in texture, a gorgeous warm toned bronze, with lots

of little, separate spots against a warm paler ground.

Female: Five entered, and very good overall quality. 1 BOB LLOYDS’ NAMOONA

DAMARA, medium wedge with well rounded muzzle and no flat planes; in profile, she has a

correct concave dip at the nose and a level chin. Good parallel nose lines and eyes of

rounded almond shape, under a level brow. Ears are medium in size, and set to follow the

lines of the wedge. Elegant body of medium length, good legs and paws; tail of medium

length. Her coat is soft and silken in texture, close-lying, with lots of little, separate copper-

coloured spots against a pale, ground, with an overall real warmth of tone; 2 LAMB’S

TIGGERMAU TALIBAH, medium wedge with no flat planes and a gently rounded muzzle; in

profile, she has a concave dip at the nose and firm chin. Face on, she has lovely parallel

nose lines and very good rounded almond-shaped eyes under a level brow. Her ears are

moderately large, but she’s inclined to hold them just a little high. Elegant body of medium

length; good legs and paws; tail of medium length, tapering slightly. Coat has very good
resilient texture, and has quite good contrast, with correct bronze spotting against a paler

ground, and a pleasing warm tone, especially on her tummy! 3 BANCROFT-TURNER’S

ADVISH SAFIYA NEFERKARE, lively girl, with a medium wedge showing just a slight pinch;

in profile, she has a very good concave dip at the nose and level chin. Face on, she has

good parallel nose lines and rounded almond eyes set under a level brow, with a good

worried expression. Very good ear set, following the lines of her wedge. Balanced, elegant

body and legs, tail of medium length. Her coat is close-lying and silken in texture with good

contrast and correct spotting, warm tone.

Smoke Neuter: 1 BOB CRUDEN’S PR MESKHENET MAELSTROM, FN. Medium wedge

with no flat planes and a rounded muzzle; in profile, she has a correct concave dip at the

nose and level chin. From the front, she has parallel nose lines and pale green rounded

almond shaped eyes could be slightly larger, but are correctly set under a level brow.

Moderately large ears are set to follow the lines of her head. Large, rather solid body, good

legs & paws; tail of medium length. Coat of medium length, silken in texture, with good silver

base and correct spotting, but I’d prefer if she was paler in overall appearance, as it’s difficult

to discern the spots against the dark ground, especially on her back.

Tortie & White SH Adult: Sweet tempered pet, well prepared, with clipped claws and clean

ears. She has a gentle temperament, and sparkling coat with 4 white socks and ginger bars

showing through the tortie – a most attractive cat.

AC Visitors Kitten: ANDERSON-KEEBLE’S SANTILLO FEROMESES MERCURY, 78 30s,

MN. Well grown kitten, almost 9 months, with a medium wedge, nicely rounded muzzle; in

profile, he has a very good concave dip at the nose and firm chin. Parallel nose lines, his

eyes are still yellow, fair size, rounded almond in shape under a level brow; ears are

moderately large, following the lines of his wedge. Balanced, elegant body of medium size,

good legs & paws, tail of medium length. Coat has lovely resilient texture, medium in length,
and has lovely contrast between good black spotting and pale ground. Unfortunately, he has

some brown tarnish on his shoulders, otherwise he would be truly stunning.

AC Aristocrat Neuter: 1 HUTCHINS’ KEVALESJONDOR JOVI, 78 30s, MN. Nervous,

gentle boy, with a medium wedge, looking a little too narrow; in profile, he has a correct

concave dip at the nose, level chin. Parallel nose lines, his eyes are rounded almond in

shape, bit slanting slightly, so he lacks typical expression. Ears are held just a touche high.

Muscular body of medium length; elegant legs and neat paws; medium length tail. Coat has

excellent resilient texture, a good silver base and good contrast between his dark, separated

spots and paler ground colour.

Breeders Neuter: 1 JATER’S SANTILLO KHENTI, 78 30s, MN. Just 9 months, mature for

his age. Balanced medium wedge with no flat planes; in profile, his nose is rather straight,

level chin. Good parallel nose lines form the front, and rounded almond eyes, still yellow in

colour, under a level brow. Elegant medium-sized body, elegant legs and small paws;

medium length tail. Coat has lovely resilient texture, good separate spotted pattern, pleasing

contrast with paler ground.

AC Junior Cat HP: 1 DODMANS’ MC RUPERT, MN, splendid chap, ginger with a spotless

white bib and toes, beautifully prepared; 2 VALE’S ELLIE-KIM, FN. Attractive blue and white

girl, but feeling a bit fractious, so not really in the mood for showing.
