                                              Pre-Treatment Instructions

Skin Assessment - A Fitzpatrick Skin Type test will be performed to most accurately gauge the laser hair removal
equipment settings before the procedure. The test is based on a person’s complexion and response to sun exposure.

DO:
      •    Arrive for procedure with clean skin that is free of any lotions
      •    Shaving is allowed
DON’T:
  • Pluck, wax or use any other form of hair removal other than shaving for three weeks prior to the treatment
      •    Undertake any tanning regimen or excessive sun exposure for three weeks prior to the treatment

Safety - All required laser safety precautions and all equipment-specific guidelines will be followed to ensure the
utmost safety during your treatments. This includes the use of protective eyewear at all times while the laser is in use.

Precautions - Please advise Dr. Cockerham if you have any of the following issues:
      •	   History of keloid formation
      •	   Excessive scarring or poor healing (due to diabetes or other conditions)
      •	   Recurrent viral infections; herpes simplex (cold sores) or varicella (shingles) may be activated by the
           laser procedure
      •	   Tattoos and permanent makeup; may be altered if in the laser-treated area
You should consult your personal physician before proceeding with the laser hair removal procedure. Excessive
hair growth may be caused by various medical conditions that may require other forms of treatment, and it is
your responsibility to explore such needs prior to laser treatments.


                                                     The Procedure


How the LightSheer Diode Laser System works - The system emits near-infrared laser light that is selectively
absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser is pulsed for only a fraction of a second—just long
enough to damage the follicle, while the system’s unique, patented contact-cooling handpiece, the ChillTip,
helps protect the skin by conductive cooling during the laser energy delivery.

This process diminishes the follicles’ ability to grow hair. Hair growth may be eliminated and any re-growth is
usually finer and lighter, making it more cosmetically acceptable. Multiple follicles are affected with each pulse
of the laser. The pulse duration and energy are adjusted to maximize results while minimizing side effects.


Physical Sensation
      •	 The laser pulse sensation is most commonly described as a rubber band snapping against the skin; most
           individuals are able to tolerate this for the short duration of the laser treatment.
      •	 Topical anesthetics are available to decrease any perceived discomfort from the laser treatment.

                                                  Post-Procedure

    •	   Most people will experience temporary redness similar to a sunburn, which lasts up to several hours.
    •	   Some skin swelling (edema) may occur.
    •	   Blistering, scabbing infection and other skin changes are much less likely. In most cases, these side
         effects should completely resolve themselves within a few hours to several days following treatment.
    •	   Scarring is extremely rare and usually occurs only in those with a predisposition, such as a history of keloid
         formation (thickened scars) or other excessive scarring.
    •	   Hypo-pigmentation or hyper-pigmentation (decreased or increased skin coloration) are possible side
         effects and, although rarely permanent, may last several weeks to months.
    •	   Cease any tanning regimen or excessive sun exposure for at least three weeks post treatment.

required to obtain semi permanent results.
