                               LETTER FROM THE MAYORS

To the Residents of Shelby County:

As the Mayors of Shelby County, we have identified emergency preparedness as a critical focus
for our respective communities and constituencies. With the expanded threats to our safety
posed by both man-made and natural disasters, our objective in protecting and equipping citizens
against these hazards is both a function of government and a moral mandate with which we
continue to comply. To this end, we are committed to the following two overall goals for the
Shelby County community:

1. Educate Shelby County residents on how to prepare for an emergency with specific
attention given to the first 72 hours after an emergency; and

2. Partner with public, private, faith-based, and non-profit sectors to share the precepts and
overall importance of emergency preparedness with Shelby County residents.

We are resolved to working collaboratively to accomplish these overarching themes in our best
efforts to secure the safety of this community and its people.
