      A SUPPLEMENT TO THE ACT, ENTITLED, “AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR
       ASCERTAINING THE ARREARAGES OF TAXES DUE FROM THE RE
       SPECTIVE COUNTIES OF THIS COMMONWEALTH.”

        Whereas the tiiiie limited by the act, entitled, “An act to pro-
      vide for ascertaining the arrearages of taxes due from the re-
      spective counties of this commonwealth,” passed the seventeenth
      of April, one thousaiid seven hundred and niiiety-five, for the
      comiiiissioners t Iwreiii named to make return of their proceed-
      ings to the comptroller getieral has, on experience, been found
      to be too short. Therefore:
         [Section L] (Section 1, P. L.) Be it enacted by the Senate

      sylvania, in (ieiieral Assembly mmiet, and it is hereby enacted by
      the authority of the same, That the powers vested in the coin-
      missioiiers therein named, by the act to which this is a supple-
      memit, shall be, and time same are, hereby revived, and to contimme
      until the first day of ~January, one thousand seven hundred and
      ninety-seven.

                        CHAPTER MMDCCCLXXX.



      AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF AN INSPECTOR OF
                         STAVES AND HEADING.

         [Section 1.1 (Section I, P. L.) Be it enacted by the Senate
      and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Penn-
      sylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by
      the authority of the same, That from and after the passing of

this act, the inspection of staves and heading shall be vested in
an officer, other than the inspector of boards, timber and
shingles, and the governor of this commonwealth shall forthwith.
appoint a person of competent skill and knowledge for the in-
spection of staves and heading, whose duties and compensation
 shall be the same as is now enjoined on and allowed to the
present inspector of lumber, in like cases.
   [Section IL] (Section II, P. L.) And be it further enacted
by the authority aforesaid, That so much of any act, or acts, of
assembly as is hereby altered or supplied shall be repealed and
made void.

                    CHAPTER MD000LxXxr.
AN ACT TO ESTABLISH A FERRY OVER THE .IUNIATA RIVER OP-
 POSITE MIFFLINTOWN, IN THE COUNTY OF MIFFLIN, AND VESTING
 THE RIGHT IN WILLIAM HARRIS AND JOSEPH MCCLELLAND, THEIR
 HEIRS AND ASSIGNS.

  Whereas Williani Harris and Joseph McClellaiicl have repre-
sented that they have, for a number of years past, established
and maintained a ferry over the Jmiiata, on the main road lead-
ing from Sunbury and Nortliuiiiberland to Path Valley, aiicl op-
posite the town of Muffin. Therefore:
   [Section I.] (~4e.tioii I, P. L.) Be it ena(tcd by the Senate
and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Penn-
sylvania, in General Assembly met, and ~t is hereby enacted by
the authority of the same, That is shall and may be lawful for
William Harris and Joseph McCIelland, their heirs and assigns,
from and after the passing of this act, to niake, or cause to be
made, at their own proper cost and charge, good and convenient
landings on both sides of the Juniata river, on the main road
leading from Sunbury and Northumberland to Path Valley and
opposite the town of Muffin, and shall at all times hereafter
maintain the same in good order and repair fit for men, horses
and carriages to pass and repass, and further, William Harris
