Image watermarking is a fast growing technique in signal processing for assuring the
authenticity of any image. Museums and Art Galleries are reluctant to use digital
media owing to the difficulty of copyright protection. Image watermarking (IW)
would help in resolving ownership disputes and in identifying different copies of a
certain painting or photo. IW has applications for content authentication, journalism,
security, and law.
The basic idea of IW is to embed a stealthy image (unperceivable image) into the
image needed to be secured. The stealthy image is derived from the original image
and should carry sufficient information to ensure copyright verification. It should be
imperceptible, undetectable, and robust enough to survive any attempts to destroy
it. In this project, we will implement a blind watermarking in which the detection of
the watermarking image is performed without access to the original work.
This project would be a very good start for students who are thinking of undertaking
postgraduate study in multimedia watermarking. Prospective students are
recommended to enrolled in ELECTENG413. The students are highly recommended to
see the supervisor before selecting the project.
