TITLE:                     Secretary

QUALIFICATIONS:            1.   High School diploma or equivalent.
                           2.   Three years of related secretarial experience or two years
                                of post-secondary secretarial training.
                           3.   Strong verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills.
                           4.   Demonstrated technical competence for the assigned
                                responsibility.
                           5.   Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board
                                may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:                Individual administrator to whom assigned.

JOB GOAL:                  To assist and relieve administrator of paperwork and
                           impediments so that maximum attention may be devoted to the
                           central problems of education and educational administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     1.   Takes and transcribes dictation of various types, including correspondence,
          minutes of meetings, reports, notices, and recommendations.
     2.   Uses available technology to gather, organize and compile data into usable form.
     3.   Maintains a regular or electric filing system as instructed.
     4.   Orders and maintains supplies as needed.
     5.   Places, receives, routes and records calls using recognized telephone etiquette.
     6.   Performs any bookkeeping or budgeting tasks associated with the specific
          position or department.
     7.   Schedules appointments, conferences, and meetings and keeps appointment
          calendars for staff.
     8.   Confers with the administrator in carrying out the day-to-day operations
          necessary to the smooth functioning of the district.
     9.   Disseminates school district memoranda outlining and explaining administrative
          policies and procedures; answers related internal and external questions within
          authority.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

     Performs related work as required. (NOTE: The omission of specific statements of
     duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a
     logical assignment to the position.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

     1.   Position requires the ability to sit in one position performing routine tasks for
          prolonged periods of time.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

         Work year and salary as established by the Board and SPALC bargaining unit
         through the collective bargaining process.

ASSESSMENT:

         Performance of this job will be assessed annually in accordance with provisions of
         the Board’s policy on assessment of support personnel.
