Director - Environmental Health & Safety
Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree from an accredited educational institution in one of the natural
sciences, physical sciences, or engineering required. Master’s Degree preferred.
National Board certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional required.
Minimum five years supervisory experience related to environmental health and safety.
Experience in budget preparation and control.
Valid Florida Driver License.

Direct materials and manpower to provide for healthy, safe and clean schools, facilitate regulatory compliance,
and reduce the school district’s exposure to liability.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
This is a multi-skilled position that requires technical knowledge and field experience in environmental health &
safety, custodial services, facility operations and maintenance. Must be computer literate, have good management
skills and ability to communicate with employees and management at all levels. Must have good organizational
skills and experience in budgeting, planning, and scheduling. Must be able to identify and prioritize cost effective
plans of action compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
Direct and control district administration of required programs, inspections and training that support
environmental health and safety.
Direct and control the Plant Operations department budget and capital budgets related to environmental
health and safety.
Direct and control procurement, administration and supervision of contracted services for hazardous material
control, monitoring, abatement, and disposal.
Direct and control district administration of custodial services and integrated pest management, including the
setting of quality and operational standards, training and supervision, and procurement and distribution of
equipment, supplies, and contracted services.
Direct and control district maintenance and contracted services for accessibility, fire alarms, intercoms, clocks,
bells, fencing, and safety-to-life projects.
Act as primary district point of contact for technical and regulatory matters related to environmental health
Assist in implementation of district disaster plan and coordination of recovery efforts.
Travel to schools and worksites throughout the county.
Provide outstanding customer service, and use positive interpersonal communication skills.
Make all decisions and perform all tasks in accordance with Brevard Public Schools’ Organizational Values.
Ensure compliance with Board rules and applicable federal laws and regulations.
