Part III: Project Goals

Goals should be developed with your New Trier Mentor (before the Proposal Writing Workshops Dec. 14-16). In
December, you should make an appointment for January to visit your Community Sponsor on-site to finalize your
goals before submitting the first draft of your proposal on January 29.

GOALS
What three goals do you plan to accomplish during your time on Senior Project? Remember – your goals need to
be achievements you can realistically accomplish in four weeks.

Goal 1:

What tangible proof will you present to your Evaluation Committee to demonstrate that you have achieved this
goal?

Goal 2:

What tangible proof will you present to your Evaluation Committee to demonstrate that you have achieved this
goal?

Goal 3:

What tangible proof will you present to your Evaluation Committee to demonstrate that you have achieved this
goal?

Independent Projects (Most Creative and Academic Projects):
If you are working independently (i.e. not at a supervised work site), you will be required to share a tangible
product each week with your New Trier Mentor. At the conclusion of Project, you must share a final product(s) with your
Evaluation Committees. It may consist of a portfolio, a manuscript, a DVD, or a performance. If this applies to you,
please indicate what exactly you will share with your Evaluation Committee at the Final Evaluation on May 19:

                                                                                                                     5

Part VII: Senior Project Parent Waiver

Your son or daughter has chosen to participate in New Trier’s Senior Project program. Senior Project provides an
opportunity for students to plan and engage in independent activities. Given the independent nature of the Projects, District
personnel cannot monitor and supervise on-going Project activities, many of which may take place off-campus or outside
normal school hours. Consequently, it is important for parents to be aware of and to monitor the activities in which their
student is engaged as part of his or her Project and to set appropriate limits on such activities in order to protect the health
and safety of their student and others who may be impacted.

If students engage in activities off campus, they must provide their own transportation. Liability and insurance coverage is
the responsibility of the driver and/or owner of the vehicle. In order for your child to participate in Senior Project, this form
must be completed and returned to the Senior Project Coordinators, Ms. Jaylyn Hermann (847-784-6625) and Ms. Susie
Thorngren (847-784-2244) at New Trier prior to the beginning of the Project.

                                  Permission to Participate and Release

My son/daughter,
                                          NAME
May participate in the Senior Project program. I have reviewed the Project proposal and have discussed with him/her the
likely risks and responsibilities associated with the Project.

I understand that part or all of the Project may be carried out off-campus and/or outside normal school hours and that New
Trier is not responsible for monitoring or supervising these activities. I also understand that transporting my son/daughter to
project activities will be solely my responsibility. I fully release and discharge New Trier High School, including the Board of
Education, its members, officers, agents, servants, independent contractors and employees, from any and all claims for
injuries, including death, damages or losses which I or my son/daughter may have or which may accrue as a result of his/her
participation in, or transportation to or from, program activities.

I further agree to indemnify, hold harmless and defend New Trier High School, including the Board of Education, its
members, officers, agents, servants, independent contractors, and employees from any and all claims resulting from injuries,
including death, damages and losses sustained by me, my son/daughter or any third parties and arising out of, connected
with, or in any way associated with participation in or transportation to or from program activities.
