Dear Parents and Friends of the AFJROTC program at Naugatuck High School:

This is the fourth in a series of our AFJROTC newsletters for parents of cadets in our unit for SY 2008-
2009. We have a number of accomplishments to share with you.

New AFJROTC leadership for Fall 2009. The following cadets have been selected to lead AFJROTC in the
Fall (note: additional selections will be made for spring term to afford cadets leadership opportunities):

        Corps Commander: Corey Boulanger
        Vice Corps Commander: Sean Sagendorf
        Director of Operations: Pete Rodrigues
        Commander, A Squadron: Adrianna Taylor
        Commander, B Squadron: Amanda Guglielmo
        Chief of Supply: Zoila Jurado
        First Sergeant: Nick Retkowski
        Recruitment Team: Ken Looby, Jerome Rumley, Lauren Semmelroth

Corey Boulanger and Pete Rodrigues will be attending the prestigious Boys State program, at Eastern CT
University in June. Corey is one of our two AFJROTC cadets attending the Air Force Aerospace and
Technology Honors Camp this summer at the University of New Mexico along with Cadet Zoila Jurado.
Pete Rodrigues will also attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar at Annapolis from 13-18 June. Pete
was also selected by the Society of Military Engineers (SAME) to attend a Navy SEABEES Camp in
California in July. Congratulations to these super achieving cadets!

Honor Society Induction: Cadets Pete Rodrigues and Jen Leite were inducted into the National Honor
Society on 28 June. Congratulations!

Air Force Summer Leadership School, Fort Dix, New Jersey: Cadets will have the opportunity to spend a
week with approximately 300 other AFJROTC cadets from the North East at a Summer Leadership
School, Fort Dix, New Jersey from 29 June-6 July. Applications are now being accepted. Deadline is 1
June. The fee for an entire week is $50 and we believe this is a great opportunity to build leadership and
team skills.

Lt Col Lofland and MSgt Morrone were selected as Air Force JROTC Outstanding Instructors:
Headquarters AFJROTC has selected its top instructors for this academic school year based on individual
contributions and impact on cadets, schools and communities. Lt Col Lofland and MSgt were among 386
instructors selected out of 1,930 eligible instructors for their achievements.
Cadets inducted into the Kitty Hawk Air Society (KHAS): 12 cadets were honored during the Annual
AFJROTC Awards Banquet on 7 May and inducted into the KHAS, an honor society within AFJROTC. To
be eligible cadets must maintain a GPA of 3.0. KHAS Members: Corey Boulanger, Jessica Buckley,
Catherine Druckenmiller, Amanda Guglielmo, Zoila Jurado, Harsimran Kaur, Jennifer Leite, Kenneth
Looby, Alex Olbrys, Anthony Orsini, Peter Rodrigues, Zachary Simko and Colton Wagner. KHAS cadets
visited Yale University 3 June for an Air Force Curriculum in Action Trip and learned about the
admissions process and science and engineering courses at Yale.

Cadets attend Leadership Reaction Course at Camp Rell, CT: 40 AFJROTC cadets spent a day of team
building and leadership training on 12 May finding solutions presented to them at the Leadership
Reaction Course hosted by the Connecticut Army National Guard.
