          Definitions:

          •   Age-Specific Competencies: P - Preschool (birth – 4:11), SA - School Age (5:0 – 17:11), A - Adult (18:0 – 64:11), S - Senior (65 and above). Students are not required
              to get experiences in every age group or for each specific competency.
          •   Assessment Methods: Assessment methods used by academic and clinical faculty to assess the student’s ability to identify, analyze, synthesize, and apply knowledge
              and skills learned over time for the development of competence. Includes such methods as: A - Academic course work, D - Demonstration in clinical practicum, E -
              Examination, I - Independent projects, L - Lab, C - Case study discussion.
          •   Competency: Effective integration of skills and knowledge to allow independent provision of clinical services in required area of performance, as required for entry
              level into the profession of speech-language pathology; desired outcome of the graduate program. Competency requirements at the UGA COMD program are met
              when the student achieves a rating between 4.0 – 5.0 (Supervision Rating Scale/Supervision Continuum) as determined by practicum performance or a minimum
              grade of a C in the relevant academic course and an overall graduate GPA of 3.0.
          •   Formative Assessment (ASHA Standard V-A): Ongoing measurement during educational preparation for the purpose of improving student learning; yields information
              to monitor acquisition of knowledge and skills; evaluates critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
          •   Rating Scale: The UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic Supervision Rating Scale/Supervision Continuum used to rate knowledge or skill on practicum performance and
              competency standards.
          •   Competency Remediation Plan: A remediation plan developed by academic and clinical faculty, when warranted by performance difficulties, to assist the student in
              achieving mastery of knowledge and/or skills required for competency.
          •   Conceptual Framework: A model of what candidates in the Professional Education Unit at USC should look like in terms of the dispositions, knowledge, and practice
              of being a professional educator. The foundation of education at USC is comprised of the Dispositions necessary to be a principled and thoughtful educator. These
              dispositions guide and support the other two components of our program: an inner core of content and professional Knowledge and a dynamic outer sphere of
              Practice.
