                                          newsletter no.41 ~ 9th May 2008

Dear Parents,

I hope that you all enjoyed your long weekend (even though it seems like a distant memory now!)

Year R Assembly

We were all treated to a fantastic ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ assembly by Year R
yesterday morning. They impressed us all with their clear voices and super
confidence. Like the beanstalk in the story they have grown so big this year and
we are very proud of each and every one of them. A big WELL DONE to the
staff in Year R for nurturing these very special ‘little flowers’ so well.

Summer dresses

I have been informed that blue striped dresses are available from ‘Pauls’ in Southend (£6.49) and also at
Crawlers (£6.99) There are also lots available at our regular ‘Eco Friendly Recycled Uniform Sale.’
One of these took place in the playground last night ~ A big WELL DONE to the ladies who gave up their
time to organise this sale ~ watch out for a date in the newsletter for the next one

Please be aware that I am currently looking into sourcing a new style dress for next year.

School Dinners

Despite a request last week that parents book in advance for school meals and a strict reminder that we
would not be able to cater for those who do not bring forms on time we are still facing daily requests
(sometimes demands) that we feed children on a daily basis. Therefore may I remind ALL parents that:

We will no longer be able to cater for children on a daily basis. If children arrive at school without
having pre-booked a dinner or having forgotten to bring their packed lunch we will phone you with
the expectation that you will bring a lunch to school for your child.

We have been consistent this week in refusing all late requests and will continue to do so in future.

Please remember that you can book for more than two weeks at a time ~ the menu is a fortnightly one
that repeats. If your child does not bring a order form home we will be happy to receive a booking over
the phone as long as it is before the Thursday afternoon cut-off. I will also endeavour to make the form
available on the school website.
INSET Days for next academic year.

The Governing Body have agreed that Monday 1st & Tuesday 2nd September 2008 will be INSET days.
Therefore children will not return to school until Wednesday 3rd September. This will allow us to be
ready for the children after the extensive building work that is planned for the summer holiday. It will
also extend for children and parents what is a slightly shorter summer break this year. We are letting
you know early in case it helps with holiday arrangements.

Music Lessons

Due to the whole school being involved in assessment tasks next week, there will be no music lessons.
Lessons will continue as normal the week after next.

Sports Award Winners

WELL DONE to the winners of the trophies for this week, who are:

Most improved: Conor (Year 3) Performer of the week: Luke (Year R)

Year 4 Cycling

Remember that cycling will continue for Year 4 again on Monday of next week (12th May)

Year 6 Residential visit to the Isle of Wight

A reminder that there will be a meeting for parents on Monday 19th May.

Book Club

Will take place in the school hall next Wednesday afternoon.

Challenging Games Club

There will be no Challenging Games club next Thursday due to both members of staff being on a course
that day. This club will continue on Thursday 22nd May.

Coffee Morning

Thank you for your wonderful support last Sunday. A fantastic total of £84.90 was raised
which will go towards buying some new books for the school library.

                             ‘Ball for Angel’

A Ball is to be held to raise funds for future treatment for Angelina,
our special little girl in Year R. The Ball will be at Saxon Hall, Aviation Way
on Friday 30th May at 7.30pm. Highlights include a 3 course meal, strolling
magicians, cabaret and a surprise guest. Tickets are £40 each and available
in the school office. Alternatively you can phone the ticket hotline number
on 01268 774668. Please support this important event if you can.
Parish RCIA programme

On Friday 16 May at 8pm there will be a special Mass held at St. George's Church to celebrate the
successful conclusion of this years RCIA course. Everyone is invited, but a special invitation to those
associated with the Parish RCIA programme, whether in the current or past years. Also, if there is
anyone who would like to know more about becoming a Catholic, and the RCIA course, this is a good
opportunity to come and meet everyone. Mass will be followed by a "gathering" for which we hope to have
a shared table.

Summer Lourdes, The total money raised was £451
