                                    JOB DESCRIPTION


Position:                FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

Overall Duties:          Responsible for the execution and/or coordination of finance, accounting
                         and budgeting functions of the Financial Services Department. Under
                         general direction, this position reports to the Director of Financial
                         Operations or supervisor as assigned.

Qualifications:
                         •        An associate degree in accounting and a minimum of four years

                                  of accounting/finance experience, or the completion of the 12
                                  grade or equivalent plus six years of in-depth Ohio school district
                                  accounting or financial recordkeeping experience.
                         •        Considerable experience is required in spreadsheet and
                                  computer software applications.

The following is a list of specific duties which are considered to be essential functions of this job.

indicated. All instructional activities will be conducted under the general supervision of the
teacher assigned to the instructional activity.

    •   Ensures that internal control procedures are performed as prescribed
    •   Maintains the integrity of the budget account code system as prescribed by the Uniform
        School Accounting System (USAS)
    •   Identifies areas of non-compliance with Ohio Revised Code, State Auditor Directives,
        Board Policy, budgetary coding, other contract requirements and recommends alternative
        solutions
    •   Coordinates daily and monthly cash reconciliation procedures
    •   Communicates with banking representatives regarding bank deposits, wire transfers,
        investments, direct deposits and other banking activity as needed for the monthly
        reconciliation process and as directed
    •   Compiles and analyzes financial data utilizing a variety of computer software applications
    •   Controls the accounting aspects for federal and state funds (including those for non-
        public schools). This function includes maintaining budgets, preparing related financial
        and statistical reports and working in cooperation with other administrators having
        responsibilities for such grants
    •   Researches and answers outside inquiries
    •   Communicates and acts as a liaison with buildings and departments regarding district
        accounting policies and procedures, state and federal compliance requirements, budgets,
        receipts, expenditures, and related issues
    •   Communicates financial and budgetary information with staff, vendors, and other
        necessary parties
    •   Assists with the daily operations of the Financial Services Department including invoicing,
        accounts receivable, receipts, expenditures, and financial reporting
    •   Assists the Director of Financial Operations with all aspects of the appropriation/budget
        process including interaction with administrators and support staff
    •   Assists with the compilation and presentation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial
        Report (CAFR) in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    •   Assists with collection and completion of financial data for special reports, as needed by
        the Treasurer and Director of Financial Operations
    •   Assists in the management of the student account activity
    •   Assists building administrators with budget setup and administration
    •   Assists building personnel with procedures for collection of revenue and expenditure of
        funds
    •   Assists with audit preparation
    •   Assists the Director of Financial Operations in developing and updating the accounting
        policies and procedures manual for key functions performed in the Financial Services
        Department
    •   Attends inservice and training programs
    •   Performs other duties as assigned

•      Ability to use technology to complete daily and assigned tasks appropriate for the position
•      Skill in the creation of financial reports
•      Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as they relate to government
       entities
•      Knowledge of the Ohio Revised Code as it relates to budgets and appropriations
•      Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
•      Ability to communicate and work with diverse groups including auditors, consultants, and
       technical staff
•      Ability to qualify under the district’s Position Schedule Bond
•      Skill in handling confidential issues
•      Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others
