VOLUNTEER
ASSISTANT COACH
   In sports other than football and basketball, a volunteer coach is any coach
    who does not receive compensation or remuneration from the institution's
    athletics department or any organization funded in whole or in part by the
    athletics department or that is involved primarily in the promotion of the
    institution's athletics program (e.g., booster club, athletics foundation
    association). The following provisions shall apply:
       The individual is prohibited from contacting and evaluating prospects off
        campus or from scouting opponents off campus and may not perform
        recruiting coordination functions (see Bylaw 11.7.1.2).
       The individual may receive a maximum of two complimentary tickets to
        home athletics contests in the coach's sport.
       The individual may receive complimentary meals incidental to organized
        team activities (e.g., pre- or postgame meals, occasional meals, but not
        training table meals) or meals provided during a prospect's official visit,
        provided the individual dines with the prospect.

   In sports other than football, basketball and women's rowing,
    a member institution may use the services of one volunteer
    coach (per Bylaw 11.01.5).
   Indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and cross
    country are separate sports for purposes of this provision.
   In women's rowing, an institution may use the services of
    four volunteer coaches.
   In sports in which the NCAA conducts separate men's and
    women's championships, a combined men's and women's
    program may use two volunteer coaches.

       It is permissible for a volunteer coach to receive
        compensation for employment at an institution's sports
        camp or clinic. [References: NCAA Bylaw 11.01.6

    equipment provided to volunteer coach

       Coaching Uniforms and Equipment Provided to Volunteer
        Coach: Determined that Bylaw 7-1-(c)-(1) [volunteer
        coaches] would not preclude an institution from providing
        items (e.g., shoes, shirts, jackets and shorts) to a volunteer
        coach, that are incidental to coaching duties.

   How this applies to BC:
       Impermissible to provide:
           Tickets for Football, Basketball or Men’s Ice Hockey
               Exception – MIH Volunteer Coach can receive two tickets
                for home contests
           Parking Pass
               Exception – When related to practice or competition
           Membership to the Plex
               Exception – If practice/competition is being held in the Plex
                then it is permissible to be in there, but it my not be used for
                personal purposes Parking Pass
SCHOLARSHIP RENEWALS
AND NONRENEWALS
   15.3.5.1 - Institutional Obligation.
       The renewal of institutional financial aid based in any degree on
        athletics ability shall be made on or before July 1 prior to the
        academic year in which it is to be effective.
       The institution shall promptly notify in writing each student-athlete
        who received an award the previous academic year and who has
        eligibility remaining in the sport in which financial aid was awarded
        the previous academic year (under Bylaw 14.2) whether the grant has
        been renewed or not renewed for the ensuing academic year.
       Notification of financial aid renewals and nonrenewals must come
        from the institution's regular financial aid authority and not from the
        institution's athletics department.

AND NONRENEWALS
   Scholarship Renewal Form due to the
    Compliance Office by MARCH 27th!!!!
       Please write in:
           “Graduating” – for those who will be graduating
           “Not Returning” – for those not returning
           For returning – enter the dollar amount; “Full”; “½
            Full”, Tuition, etc…
           Must designate the duration of the award – Yearly or
            Semester
               5th years must sign semester contracts
SCHOLARSHIP RENEWALS
AND NONRENEWALS
   The Compliance Office will provide the scholarship
    renewals contracts to you by April 17th.
   Please sign and have your student-athletes sign.
   Return one copy to the Compliance Office no later
    than May 1st.
   Scholarships will not be posted until a signed
    contract has been returned to the Compliance Office
