PROPOSED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – FOCUS OF MEETING
New School Board Member – Dr. Sharon Webb
                                                      Invited to January 17th Meeting!
Most homeowners in the Gemstones Communities have been
told of the proposed plan for an elementary school to be built on
property bordering our community off of Weaver Road. As we enter
into a new year and with reports from the news media of the closing
of several existing schools, you may be concerned as to whether a
school in our community will in fact be built.
In light of these concerns the Board of Directors has invited Dr.
Inside this Edition Sharon Webb (new member of the Memphis City School Board of
Education – District 6) to come and share with homeowners about

HOMEOWNERS HOST SUCCESSFUL “HARVEST FESTIVAL” FOR CHILDREN
                                             FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2006

Homeowners LaTarsha Tate and Deidre Glover, joined by other homeowners (pictured on the back row above
on the right), accepted the challenge to host this year’s Harvest Festival” for the children of the Gemstones
Community. From the pictures above, it was clear that the children who attended had a wonderful time.
We tip our hats to LaTarsha and Deidre for taking a small allocation and with special donations from
homeowners transforming this effort into a successful affair for our children. We also thank the parents who
helped this dynamic team and the other parents who brought their children. Finally, we thank Mr. David
Walker for securing a grant that reimbursed GCHA for the initial allocation.
                             * We hope other parents will volunteer to host our Harvest Festival for 2007 *

CHRISTMAS PARTY IS A DANCING SUCCESS
                                            FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2006
Homeowner Claudette Boyd and her committee of Radford Dockery and Johnnie Davis sponsored a
Christmas party, on behalf of the GCHA Association, that made sure everybody got a “chance to dance.”
Unlike parties of the recent past which focused on games, food and fellowship, this year’s party included a
Dee-Jay whose musical choices included selections for every age group. Although no photos were available
(our fault), the 60+ persons who attended danced the night away.
Special thanks to Claudette & Gerald, her Christmas Committee and special friends for their great work!

SCAM ARTISTS TARGETING DIAMOND AND RUBY ESTATES
                                             Please be on the Alert
Over the past several months homeowners have reported attempts by Scam Artists posing as new
homeowners in our community, who are attempting to solicit small amounts of money while also seeking to
find out who resides at a location. The general approach is to 1) ask for the man of the house (perhaps to
determine if the owner lives alone or if there is no male presence) and 2) then ask for $8 or $10 allegedly to
pay for a tow truck to move a vehicle that has hit a pothole on Goodman Road or some other nearby street.
Persons perpetrating these acts have been black males in their early 30’s usually wearing a fraternity shirt and
accompanied by several other persons in an accompanying vehicle.
WE URGE ALL HOMEOWNERS TO BE WARY OF SUCH REQUESTS AND IF IN DOUBT DO NOT HESITATE TO
CONTACT THE POLICE. “IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY!”

CAR THEFTS ON THE INCREASE IN DIAMOND & RUBY ESTATES
Homeowners are urged to be attentive regarding the safety precautions used for their automobiles.
Where possible, homeowners are encouraged to park their cars overnight in their garage instead of on the street
or in the driveway. If parking on the street, homeowners are encouraged to install and activate an auto alarm
system in each vehicle. Finally, homeowners are encouraged to be their “neighbor’s keeper” and to help
observe and report any unusual or suspicious activity.
