Welcome to Semi-Precious Designs !

My love for gemstones and jewelry began when I was a child.  When I was five, my mother
began studying to be an Earth & Space science teacher.  We went on fieldtrips to search for
unique rock, gemstone, and mineral samples for her collection.  I helped her when I could, and I
realized that I loved studying the raw gemstones as much as she did.  Her passion grew, and
she extended her jewelry collection to include unique gemstones and materials that I had never
before seen.  I loved her collection and decided that I would have one just like it someday.

In college, I majored in Civil Engineering.  I studied geology as part of the major and my passion
for gemstones and minerals reignited.  I began making my own jewelry; I started with hemp
designs and basic wire wrapping.  I decided that I wanted to take it a step further and include
gold, silver, and semi-precious gemstones in my designs.

Today, six years later, I travel to Rock & Mineral shows and Bead & Jewelry shows to find
unique pieces that I can incorporate into my designs.  I take courses to learn new methods and I
am constantly refining my technique.  In addition, I teach courses to co-workers and friends who
are interested in jewelry design, but don't necessarily know where to start.  I hope to soon be
able to cast my own gold and silver pendants and components.

The intent of this site is to showcase the pieces that I have made thus far and provide unique
design ideas for my clients.  My designs are custom and handmade, so no two pieces will be
exactly alike.  I use only the highest quality pieces; for example, in my Silver designs, I use
pure Sterling Silver, not plated Silve
r.  (Plated Silver is Copper wire or other metal that has a Sterling Silver plating--the Silver
plating on these pieces will wear off over time, leaving a once brilliant piece of jewelry looking
bland.)  Pure Sterling Silver can be polished with a cloth to restore its original luster.
Additionally, I use natural materials, such as semi-precious gemstones, crystals, and pearls, so

my pieces will be timeless.

If there is something you see on this site that you are interested in, or if you see a design
somewhere and would like me to make something similar, but unique to your taste, please send
me an email at  I look forward to working with you and
creating a custom piece that you will love for years to come!
