The deposit is non-refundable. If you must cancel, your deposit can be applied to future courses taught by that instructor. Kids Arts Classes The following are formal classes that are being offered for young people. Our studios are open for parents and guests during all other regular shop hours as well. Unaccompanied children are welcome. We do ask that they be mature enough to work with minimal supervision. All pricing for time and materials outside regular scheduled classes is a la carte. Young People’s Ceramics and Crafts Saturdays 10:00am-12:00pm This weekly class is open to all children 5 and up. The children will explore the fascinating medium of clay as they build their own creations. Instruction, assistance, and snacks are provided, but the key here is good, creative fun. Tuition: $6.50. Adult Art Classes Basic Framing Thursdays or by appointment 6:00pm-8:30pm This is a 1-2 hour workshop that introduces the student to the framing process and how to properly use the equipment. Students may bring their own postcard sized piece of art to frame or use one we provide for you. Tuition: $50.00. Materials included. Class may be repeated. Woodworking Workshops Lathe Turning Saturdays, on demand 1:00pm-6:00pm In this introductory workshop to the lathe, students will learn how to properly use and work the turning tools. We will start with a table leg design, and then learn how to turn a simple bowl. Tuition: $50.00. Materials included. Tool Sharpening Saturdays, on demand 3:00pm-6:00pm Learn a good simple way to sharpen your edged tools (chisels, gouges, plane irons and knives). This is for hand tools and knives only. Please bring a few of your dull tools with you. Tuition: $25.00. Materials included. Relief Carving Saturdays, on demand 1:00pm-6:00pm Learn how to make a relief carving with gouges and chisels. Starting with simple patterns, we will then move on to more complex patterns as time permits. Tuition: $40.00. Materials included. Woodworking Classes Do-It-Herself Tuesdays, 1/27-3/3 6:00pm-8:00pm This women only class is designed as an introduction to the woodshop. Classes can cover a range of topics, including carving, turning, box making, and some furniture construction. Classes will be based on student interest. Materials included. 6 classes. Tuition: $90.00. Jewelry Boxes Tuesdays, 3/10-4/14 6:00pm-8:00pm In this introduction to fine woodworking class, students will become more confident with the tools in the woodshop by making a simple decorative wooden box. It makes a great gift. Materials included. 6 classes. Tuition: $90.00. Advanced Carving/Turning Tuesdays, 4/21-5/26 6:00pm-8:00pm We recommend that you have taken the Relief Carving and Woodturning workshops. You will become more confident with the lathe, learning more intricate designs for table legs, balusters and bowls in this class. We will also cover simple techniques to carving more intricate designs, including Celtic knots, tribal symbols, and letters. Materials included. 6 classes. Tuition: $90.00. $$$ Stained Glass Saturdays, on demand 9:30am-4:00pm In this one day course, stained glass instructor, Susan Basel, will teach you the basic-advanced techniques needed to produce your own piece of stained glass art. Special topic classes are also offered, including, but not limited to, building panel windows, stained glass lamps, and stained glass jewelry boxes. Tuition varies: $45.00-$60.00. Materials are provided. $$$ Introduction to Pottery Thursdays, 1/22-3/26 6:00pm-8:30pm Saturdays, 1/24-4/4 (no class 2/14) 3:30pm-6:00pm Pottery instructor, Sabri Ben-Achour, will teach a ten week session covering the basics of traditional wheel-thrown pottery: centering, throwing, shaping, trimming, altering, firing, and glazing. The class will be two and a half hours long and is designed to prepare students to come into the studio on their own after the ten weeks have ended to create basic works independently, though continued instruction will be available. Instructional materials will be available as part of the course. Depending on interest, special workshops may be possible on various types of Raku firing and courses may cover basic glaze making and chemistry. Tuition: $230.00 (includes a $30.00 clay/glaze/firing fee). Some materials are provided. Class may be repeated. Mologne House Workshops 1st and 3rd Thursdays 2:00pm-4:00pm ***Class will be held in the restaurant*** Fisher House Workshops 2nd and 4th Thursdays 2:00pm-4:00pm ***Class will be held in Fisher House 3*** During this drop-in workshop, residents will learn a variety of arts and crafts techniques, including, but not limited to, jewelry making, felting, mosaics, collage, photography, scrapbooking, and wood carving. We will let our imaginations go wild. By the end of most workshops, students will take home a finished piece. Mologne House Workshops are open to non-residents for a small fee. Materials included. Some workshops are not appropriate for young children. Please call for information regarding the upcoming topic and to register. Ward Workshops Tuesdays, on demand by appointment The staff at the Arts and Crafts Center will design and teach workshops in arts and crafts or creative writing to patients and staff as requested. Classes will be tailored to student needs, interests, etc.
