Today, Trinity Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the 12:15 Mass, Rev. Brian Austin, F.S.S.P., will offer a Solemn High Tridentine Mass of Thanksgiving as a newly ordained priest. Rev. Austin was recently ordained on May 30th, into the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, a religious order founded in 1988 by Pope John Paul II. The priests of this community serve the Church by celebrating the “Tridentine,” Mass and sacraments in the “extraordinary form” of the Roman Rite. In September of 2007, after the Motu Proprio of Pope Benedict XVI, and at the request of Bishop Murphy, we here at St. Matthew’s began offering the Tridentine Mass every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. in our chapel. It has been a great success. Rev. Austin’s brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Meghan Austin, are members of our parish. As a seminarian, Rev. Brian Austin has served on our altar a number of times, especially during holidays breaks from his seminary training. Although he himself has never been a parishioner of St. Matthew’s, because his family worships here, I believe we have at least some claim to being his “home parish.” I am very grateful to Fr. Austin that he has agreed to celebrate this Mass for us. It is a wonderful opportunity for the people of the parish to see the first Solemn High Tridentine Mass celebrated in the diocese in more than forty years. For those who normally attend the 12:15 Mass, please be aware that this Mass will be longer than a usual Mass. Afterwards, there will be a reception in Msgr. Goggin Hall with refreshments, and parishioners are invited to receive the first blessing of this newly ordained priest. Please pray for Rev. Brian Austin and remember in prayer all our seminarians, our future priests.

On Thursday, July 17, 2008, from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm, here at St. Matthew’s RC Church in Msgr. Goggin Hall, will be hosting stroke prevention screenings, sponsored by PRECISION SCREENING PLUS, Long Island’s FIRST and ONLY locally owned and operated Stroke Screening Company, serving the community since2001. All Carotid Artery Doppler exams are reviewed by our Board Certified Interventional Radiologist. Your physician cannot order these tests without clear evidence of symptoms. Ironically, most people who suffer from a stroke or aneurysm never show signs or symptoms that a major catastrophe is about to occur. Individual tests are $50,any 3 for $120 and all 4 for $140. Please call Precision Screening Plus at 8006791070to set up an appointment or if you would like any additional information. Eucharistic Adoration

" O Jesus Christ , true God and true Man ! My soul rejoices to find You in the Blessed Sacrament , You , the uncreated God who became man , a creature ! In this Sacrament , O Christ , I find both Your humanity and Your divinity ; from Your humanity I rise to Your divinity and from it I go back to Your humanity. O Jesus , with all the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit , a holy and unspotted oblation ...help me to love You more and more." Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen , O. C. D.

Should we tell our children about abortion? Yes! The pro-life message will not harm our children. What will harm them, however, is the “pro-abortion” message, which will train them to think that human life is a disposable item and which, if unchallenged, may lead them to an abortion mill someday.

The Pro-Life Corner is presented by Stephenson County Right to Life "Without life nothing else matters" Website: http:/www.prolifecorner.com

Y E S Group Senior Moments

Meeting on Thursday after the 9:00 am Mass

It is hard to believe that it is June; we are beginning the last month of another year of the YES Group. We picked up quite a few members this season and sadly, we said our final goodbyes to others. They are missed but not forgotten. This past week, many of us enjoyed a cruise around the south shore of Long Island on the Great South Bay. The boat, the Lauren Kristy, was an attractive vessel, the crew was very attentive and lunch was delicious ( always important). I am sure that you will all agree that the weather could have been better, but when you are in the company of good friends, things like the weather are secondary to having a great time. Remember that Sr. Ave will not be able to be here on June 11 as planned due to her surgery. Please remember her in your prayers. The last meeting of the month, June 25th will be celebrated with a luncheon at Sputino’s . Remember always to pray for those who are ill or fighting some kind of battle and of course foe their loving caregivers. Do something nice today for a total stranger. See you in Church, Pat. ******************************************** One enemy is too many...a hundred friends, too few. My friends are not perfect, nor am I..and so we suit each other perfectly!

Vocation Prayer Hour TURN USED CELL PHONES INTO FOOD AND GASOLINE

There is a company that is funding the use of USED CELL PHONES for CHARITY. This company erases and cleans used cell phones for the use of children, women in shelters, senior citizens, and servicemen and women , and others in need. This company pays for the mailing and also DONATES a small amount of money per phone to be used to assist a variety of charities. Sister Diane Kirwan , O.P., a Dominican Sister of Amityville, is COLLECTING USED CELL PHONES and mailing them to that company. Any monies that Sister Diane receives is in turn sent to Sister Teresita Rivera , O. P .. who is the Director of the Senior Citizens Center in Bayamon , Puerto Rico. Sister Diane resides in St. Gregory's Convent in Bellerose. There are over one hundred (100 ) elderly who receive assistance and enjoy socializing each day. These Seniors are picked up by vans and returned home in these same vans at the end of the day. They have breakfast and , later dinner , which is provided at the Center. Recently the high cost of gasoline and food have put a strain on the budget of the Center. Therefore I am collecting USED CELL PHONES to help alleviate these rising costs and assist wherever there is a need. If you , or anyone you know , would like to help , place phones in the boxes placed by the Main Entrance to the Parish Center , or the main entrance of Church. Thank you and God bless you for your goodness. Please feel free to call if you have questions. 718 343 7571 Sister Diane Kirwan, O. P.

Saint John Vianney, Patron Saint of parish priests, said, “Through prayer we receive a foretaste of heaven and something of Paradise comes down upon us. I often think that when we come to adore the Lord we would receive everything we ask for if we ask with living faith and a pure heart.” “Our hearts are small but prayer stretches them and makes them capable of loving God.”

Some have asked, why is Scripture study so vital in the life of a Christian? If we examine the life of Jesus we find that Scripture played an important part in His life and ministry. In Mt. 4:1-10, we read of the events which began Jesus’ public ministry , and how Satan came to tempt Jesus in His human nature. Notice three times Satan came to tempt Jesus and three times Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy to ward off Satan’s temptation. Jesus always quoted from Scripture to reveal truths found in them, and to be strengthened by them. Through Scriptures Jesus revealed to the disciples, to the people, and to the religious leaders eternal truths that had been hidden from them. Since Jesus knew and used Scripture in this way, how much more should we know and use Scripture to help resolve the daily trials in our lives. God has not left us in the dark concerning the meaning and purposes for this life journey. He has given us an instructional book on living life pleasing in His sight. As we conform to His will and teachings life becomes simpler and far more peaceful. Our daily trials become lighter and easier to carry because our minds and hearts are being guided by His will and teachings and not our own.
