ACCEPTANCE OF GIFTS IN CASH OR KIND POLICY

Staff should refrain from accepting gifts from the people they support and should actively try to dissuade them from this course of action. Staff should not borrow money or accept gifts either in cash or in kind, nor must they sell to a person they support or anyone on his/her behalf, or purchase any article of clothing or property. In certain circumstances, if the value of the gift is small and not of a monetary nature (i.e. a token gift at Christmas) and when, on balance it’s rejection would seem discourteous and prejudicial to a working relationship, the member of staff should exercise discretion as to acceptance. Acceptance or otherwise must be reported to the Supported Living Manager or Chair. Staff should not advise or assist a person they support in the making of a Will. If a person you support wishes to make a Will they should be advised to consult a solicitor. Any member of staff who is aware that they are a beneficiary in the Will of a person they support or their relative, must report the fact to the Management Committee (except in circumstances where the member of staff is a relative.) The instruction is intended to protect the people we support and members of staff who may find themselves in embarrassing situations if they are party to such transactions.
