PRESS RELEASE ONE Press Release: Tackling Health Issues in Schools through Dance and Fitness Company Name: Northern Fitness & Education FROM TOTS TO TEENS – WORKING TO GET OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS MOVING In direct response to the growing problem of child obesity, Northern Fitness and Education (NFE) has created a new and innovative series of teacher training courses and workshops. Spearheading the programme is Imogen Buxton, a leading children‟s fitness education and dance specialist. The courses are specifically designed to encourage children to be more active and alert them to the health risks that result from being overweight. Whilst changing attitudes is always difficult, there is now a positive shift in attitudes towards activity and its value in a child‟s life. Poor diet and low activity levels have a negative impact on health, motivation, concentration span and attendance levels in our schools. The good news is that through being more aware of these links, schools and colleges across the country are looking for new, innovative and fun approaches to get children and young people more active and enjoying a more varied healthy diet. „Kids Fitness‟ is a rapidly expanding market and NFE intends to play a major role in improving the quality of activity delivered into schools through a brand new „Tots to Teens‟ training programmes for fitness professionals. Christine North-Minchella, Director of Training for Northern Fitness and Education, said “Imogen has over 10 years experience in this market sector. Her extensive knowledge and experience working with children and their teachers has brought about tried and tested programmes that deliver results. Combine this with NFE‟s expertise in training and education, and we are in no doubt that our „Tots to Teens‟ programme will greatly enhance the skills and knowledge of fitness professionals nationwide who are keen to start working with children, safely and effectively”. Notes to Editors: NFE will be launching the following programmes this spring: TOTS: The course aims to put a dent in the rising numbers of obese children in the UK, offering fitness training and expertise for fitness leaders who want to work with tots and younger children to help to tackle potential problems before they occur. On the basis that a bad habit formed is difficult to break, NFE will inspire them early on and encourage activity for life. „Fit for Tots’ is a one day workshop that will enable fitness instructors and primary school teachers to work confidently and creatively with children aged 3 to6. TEENS: NFE‟s teens programme is fun, dynamic and promotes new and innovative ways to get teenagers motivated and moving on a daily basis. The one day ‘Fit for Teens’ workshop will enable fitness instructors and PE teachers to create and deliver fun and dynamic group sessions in dance-fitness, cheerleading and combat. The two day „Adapting Gym for Adolescents’ module focuses on adapting gym based activities for 11 to 21 year olds, an area inspired by the increasing number of young people and their families who enjoy the gym environment together.

Northern Fitness and Education is a respected training provider serving the North of England and is recognised by REP‟s and Central YMCA Qualifications. In 2006 NFE‟s Director of Training was awarded the Exceptional Achievement Award for her contribution to the development of the health and fitness industry in the UK. More recently NFE has been appointed as Academy Providers for the National Skills Academy.
