The Fredericktowne Players, Inc. is pleased to annually confer several awards and scholarships to high school students in Frederick County. Our scholarship and award program is especially significant because community outreach is a vital part of FtP’s mission, and we recognize that young people significantly enhance the lifeblood of our organization. In celebrating the theatrical contributions of students in our community, we are proud and fortunate to offer the following awards.

THE JEFFREY KIGHT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
In association with Frederick’s Community Foundation, FtP honors and celebrates the life of Jeffrey Kight, a longtime friend of the Players whose dedication to theatrical arts and to our organization serves as an example for all of us. Jeff was very involved in backstage production. He was the props master for our production of Peter Pan in 1988. He was tragically killed by a drunk driver in April 1989. Jeff’s parents encouraged donations to FtP in his memory. In August 1989 the board established The Jeffrey Kight Memorial Scholarship. The following year, at our production of Lil’ Abner, the first award was presented. This scholarship, of $1000, is awarded annually to a high school senior through an application procedure. The recipient reflects the ideals that Jeffrey Kight exemplified: talent, hard work and selfless dedication to the theater arts. This year’s recipient of the Jeffrey Kight Memorial Scholarship is Madeline Hicks. She is an outstanding young woman who has given her significant talents for the benefit of the Fredericktowne Players and to the theater program at Governor Thomas Johnson High School. She is currently featured in this production of Once Upon A Mattress. She will be attending Towson University in the fall, and plans to study acting.

With our Theatrical Arts Scholarships, FtP recognizes the significant contributions of local high school seniors, as nominated by the drama teacher at their respective high schools.
