Dear Parents, We are so sorry that we have had to finish the school year early due to the Government closure of schools and Kindergartens. Usually this term we have some fun activities with the children which unfortunately they will miss this year. In particular paddling pool day, Always wonderful fun – even for the teachers who are usually soaked by the children. The Mermaids and Pirates party – a great day - especially for the little pirates who are allowed to carry swords and pistols into Kindergarten for this special day. Many of the children leave us at this time and we are sad that we have not had the opportunity to say ‘good-bye’ properly. We do plan to remedy this with a Leaving Ceremony, tentatively on Saturday, 22nd August, but we will finalise the details at a later stage and keep you informed. K2 Reports Unfortunately these have not all been completed, however, arrangements will be made to address this and letters will be sent to individual parents. We have had some time to reflect on the past year and to recall some of the highlights your children have participated in.

Friendships In the K2 class, the second year is always an opportunity to cement relationships started in the first year. Whereas in the K1 class, many new children started this year and this meant lots of new friends.

Halloween Party This is the first ‘dress up’ party of the year and always the source of lots of fun and games. The children love to talk about the costumes they will wear and as teachers we enjoy hearing about what they plan to be and see if, in fact, they got it right.

Visit to Shatin Junior School As usual, the K2 children were invited to visit Shatin Junior School to watch their Christmas Production. We find we receive many comments from the ESF school teachers about how well behaved our children are during this visit. Naturally, as teachers, this is a source of great pride for us and you too, as parents, should be congratulated on your children’s behaviour when visiting the ‘big school’.

Christmas Concert 2008 We had our Christmas concert to which you were invited. This is very exciting for the children and they work so hard at all their songs and put on such a wonderful performance in a strange environment and before lots of unknown faces. Once again we are so proud of them.

Christmas Party We had Santa visit the children in Kindergarten and had lots of party food and played games. The teachers also got into the spirit of this event and performed special songs for the children whilst they were eating.

Chinese New Year Party A time for the children and teachers to dress up in all our Chinese finery and acknowledge how fortunate we are to be living peacefully in such a multi-cultural society.

ESF teachers visit to Kindy We do have a close relationship with the Junior Schools in our area, in particular, Shatin Junior School, which means the teachers come to visit our children in the classroom where they can see them with their friends in a familiar and comfortable environment. (We are delighted to announce that

again all of our children have been accepted into their chosen Junior Schools.)

Easter Party An opportunity for the children to bring in a cuddly toy and have an Easter egg hunt, play games and have a picnic.

Birthday Parties Children love talking about their own birthdays and we like to celebrate their special day with them. Apart from the parties organised to commemorate the above, we acknowledge the traditional Chinese Festivals, e.g. Lantern Festival, Dragon Boats.

Parent Participation We have some parents who regularly help us in the classroom and we would like to say thank you, we do appreciate your assistance.

To those children who are leaving, we wish you all the very best and hope you are happy in your new schools. We would like to think we will see you again some day as Hong Kong is a very small place. We look forward to seeing those who are returning next term. On behalf of the teachers and myself, we thank you for being such supportive parents and trust you all have a wonderful and healthy summer holiday and hope to see you soon.
