Make Mine a Kingfisher!
Cutthroat competition from low cost domestic flights leads to cheaper Indian adventures KE restructures India pricing with savings up to £350
The Indian airline industry has finally caught up with the European and North American trend of low cost, no-frills airlines. With airfares almost reduced to that of a train fare, the inception of no-frills airlines has unleashed a fierce cutthroat competition on the Indian aviation scene. All leading domestic airlines have slashed their fares as a result. By taking advantage of these newly available low fares, KE Adventure Travel has dramatically reduced the cost of many of their holidays in the remote Himalayan provinces of Ladakh and Sikkim. Airlines such as Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines (yes, the beer manufacturer) provide regular, no-frills services and contribute to potential savings of as much as £350 on some KE holidays. Generally, the sooner clients book and the sooner the trip is guaranteed, the less they can expect to pay for internal flights and for the trip as a whole. Working together with their Indian agent, the BIG NEWS at the start of 2009 is that KE Adventure Travel has been able to substantially reduce the cost of most of their Indian holidays. In addition to this, they are offering further savings by changing the way they book internal flights within India. Instead of pre-booking expensive seats, they will now work with the new low cost airlines that have recently emerged in India. Airlines such as Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines, Air Deccan, Spice Jet and others operate in a similar way to easyJet in the UK, offering no-frills services and with usually non-refundable airtickets. Return flights from Delhi to Leh in Ladakh and from Delhi to Bagdogra (the gateway to Sikkim) are now costing from around £120 to £300. For each KE Indian adventure where this situation applies, the Land Only trip price is now advertised without the cost of internal flights. Using The Markha Valley Trek as an example, the Land Only trip price was £1395 including pre-booked internal flights. KE is now selling this trip at a Land Only price of £895, plus the cost of the internal flights, which they will purchase as soon as the trip is guaranteed. With the cost of internal flights varying between £150 and £300, that's a potential Land Only cost of as little as £1045.
