NON-STOP FLIGHTS TO FT. MYERS/PUNTA GORDA TO BEGIN OCTOBER 4, 2009 ON DIRECT AIR.
SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS …

Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is pleased to announce

the initiation of new non-stop, flights to the Ft. Myers/Punta Gorda, Florida area beginning on October 4, 2009 on Direct Air. “We’re excited about this most recent addition of non-stop service from our partner Direct Air,” said Mark Hanna, Airport Executive Director. “This non-stop service to Florida’s southwest coast is a first for us, and we anticipate our local community will respond to support it.” The announcement of the new schedule to the Ft. Myers area (flights arrive and depart Punta Gorda airport, PGD) was made in mid June and ticket sales have been strong since then. The introductory fare to the Ft. Myers area destination starts at $99 each way.* Tickets are available to book on line at www.visitdirectair.com or by calling 1-877-432-DIRECT (877-4323473). Ed Warneck, president of Direct Air stated, “We have been pleased with how central Illinois, and particularly the Springfield market responded to our direct service to Myrtle Beach. The effort the airport has put into marketing our brand has exceeded our expectations.” Direct Air began non-stop service to Myrtle Beach from Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport on May 21st, but promotional efforts began months earlier. “Adding the non-stop Florida service to this market was a logical choice, especially based on the market’s response to our Myrtle Beach flights, plus it’s in-line with our goals as an airline to provide direct flights to popular leisure destinations in regional markets. I think the Florida service will do very well here,” said Warneck.

Direct Air's new service to Florida features a 737 150-seat aircraft, which will depart Springfield (SPI) each Thursday and Sunday night at 6:45 p.m., arriving in Punta Gorda at 9:51 p.m. local time through 11/15/09. Beginning on 11/19/09 the twice-weekly flights will shift to a Wednesday and Saturday schedule, departing Springfield at 9:45 a.m. and arriving in Punta Gorda at 12:51 p.m. The non-stop public charter flights are operated by XTRA Airways for Direct Air. Direct Air is a privately owned carrier providing public charter air flights, and offering all-inclusive vacation, golf, and entertainment packages. The company began operations in March 2007 and is headquartered in Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition to the added service to Springfield, Illinois, Direct Air also provides non-stop service from Myrtle Beach to Niagara Falls, New York City (Newark), Pittsburgh, Montreal (Plattsburgh), Allentown, Kalamazoo, Worcester, Toledo, Chicago (Rockford), and Ft. Myers (Punta Gorda). Also non-stop flights to Punta Gorda (Ft. Myers area) from Worcester, Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, Toledo, Plattsburgh, Myrtle Beach, Rockford and Niagara Falls, or to Orlando-Sanford from Kalamazoo and Worcester. Direct Air also operates a Reservation / Call Center located in Beckley, West Virginia. The Center is capable of handling as many as 20,000 incoming calls per day and supports as many as 100 Reservation/Sales agents on-line simultaneously. Direct Air can be contacted directly by calling 877-432-DIRECT (3473) or on-line at www.visitdirectair.com. In addition the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport’s Passenger Service Center can book tickets for passengers on Direct Air, and no service fee is involved.
