							Disciplinary Scenarios?
Dave’s Day Off Dave has been with the practice 8 years. He rang in to say that he would not be at work as he had an upset stomach but expected to return the following day, which he did. You found out two days later that on the day in question, he attended an interview for a job at another practice.

Trendy Joan Joan, an receptionist, arrived at work wearing a black skirt with a hem six inches above the knee and hanging on a chain around her neck was a swastika. When told by you that her dress was unsuitable she argued that there was nothing in the practice rules which specified how employees should dress.

Enterprising Elaine You saw Elaine, the cleaner, walking around the surgery during working hours, attempting to silk flowers which she had obtained cheaply from a friend of hers.

Charitable Colin Colin is a member of the local Spastics Society and is employed as a filing clerk. During working hours he has been collecting orders for Christmas cards sold in aid of the Society.

A Question of Negligence A complaint was received from a patient following a visit by one of your service engineers. The complaint concerns the fact that the equipment had been left in an electrically dangerous state. This was verified by yourself when you made a check to follow-up the complaint.

Dead Slow and Stop Doris is a practice nurse. She is a first class employee except for the fact that she is very slow. She understands how to do the job and seldom makes any mistakes. The call and recall systems for which she is responsible, have to be brought up to date all too often by your other practice nurse.

The Senior Receptionist Your senior receptionist complains to you that the practice nurse has hit her. A sharp push in the chest might be a better description of what happened. You know that there has been some friction between these two over the last few months. The practice nurse claims that the incident arose when she stumbled. There are no other witnesses.
