					B-2 Spirit
Aircraft design by Dave Eckert. B-2 Spirit REFERENCE INFORMATION The B-2 Spirit is a multi-role bomber that can deliver either conventional or nuclear weapons. Its low-observable, or "stealth," characteristics give the B-2 a unique ability to penetrate an enemy's most sophisticated defenses and threaten its most sensitive heavily defended targets. The B-2 crew consists of a pilot in the left seat and mission commander in the right. The B-2's low observation comes from a combination of reduced infrared, acoustic, electromagnetic, visual and radar signatures. These signatures make it difficult for the sophisticated defense systems to detect, track and engage the B-2. Most of the B-2s technology remains classified; however, its composite materials, special coatings and flying-wing design all contribute to its "stealthiness." The only operational base for the B-2 is Whiteman AFB in Missouri. Nevertheless, six B-2s participated in air strikes on the first three days of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan that occurred in October 2001. All six sorties were longer than 40 hours, with the longest over 44 hours, making it the longest combat sortie in aviation history. The missions began at Whiteman AFB, attacked targets in Afghanistan and then landed at Diego Garcia. After about an hour on the ground for an engine-running crew change, the aircraft were airborne again for the 30+ hour flight back to Whiteman.

Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight
Aircraft design and performance by Rey Lopez.

Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight Reference Information The Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter has served both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) reliably since the early 1960s. The twin-turbine powered, dual-piloted, tandem rotor helicopter Sea Knight is overt 17 feet high and slightly over 84 feet long (when the blades are open). Even the six rotor blades are large - each measures 25.5 feet in length. A typical CH-46 weighs about 18,000 pounds but has a maximum lift capacity of 6,000 pounds. IT can carry 25 combat-loaded troops or can be outfitted to carry medical litters to evacuate wounded personnel. The first U.S. Marine Corps Sea Knight was delivered in October 1964 and began military service in 1965 during the Vietnam War. The U.S. Navy used the CH-46 Sea Knight to carry troops and cargo to and from ships in the China Sea. In only a few years the Sea Knight flew over 180,000 missions, including nearly 9,000 search/rescue missions. F/A-18 Hornet - Blue Angles #2
Aircraft design by Dave Eckert and accurate flight dynamics by Dennis Seeley. F/A-18 Hornet REFERENCE INFORMATION In fighter mode, the F/A-18 is used primarily as a fighter escort and for fleet air defense. In its attack mode, the Hornet is used for force protection and close air support. The Hornet was essentially a larger and much redesigned YF-17 Cobra that was capable of carrier operations. In addition to the fitting of an arresting hook, the new jet has strengthened landing gear, upgraded engines (from the Cobra's two 15,000 lb. thrust to two 16,000 lb. thrust turbofans), increased fuel capacity and significant upgrades to avionics, fly-by-wire controls and fire control systems. The F/A-18 Hornet fighter/attack aircraft, first flown on November 18, 1978, was developed by Northrop and McDonnell Douglas. The program was taken over by Boeing in 1997. The F-18, in several versions, is flown by the USN, the US Marines, and the air forces of several other countries, including Australia, Canada, Finland, Kuwait, Malaysia Spain, and Thailand. This FLIGHT SIM aircraft represents an F/A-18C of the USN Blue Angels aerobatics team. KC135-R Stratotanker
Aircraft design and performance by Rey Lopez. KC135R STRATOTANKER REFERENCE INFORMATION The KC135 main function is air refueling for the Air Force, Marines, Navy and allied aircraft. Using the basic design of the B707, the KC135 first flew in August of 1956 and was delivered to Castle Air Force Base in June of the next year. Most of the original KC-135A’s have been modified with CFM-56 engines and have been designated the KC-135R or KC-135T. The KC-135R and KC-135T’s are more fuel efficient, cost less to operate, unload more fuel and are 96% quieter than the KC-135A. The KC135-R has 4 turbofans mounted under 35-degree swept wings, which provide enough power to takeoff with a gross weight of up to 322,500 pounds. The internal fuel is pumped through the tanker's refueling arm or ‘boom’. A special shaped fitting is attached to the boom and hangs freely and can be used to refuel aircraft with similar fittings. The boom is operated by a crewmember positioned in the rear of the KC135-R. There is also a cargo area above the refueling area that can hold both passengers and/or cargo. Bell OH-58 Kiowa
Aircraft design and performance by Rey Lopez. Bell OH-58 Reference Information The US Army chose Bell as the winner of its light observation helicopter competition in March of 1968. The US Army planned to order 2,000 OH-58A Kiowa aircraft. The Kiowa is similar to Bell Jetranger 206A but features a larger diameter main rotor, a different internal layout and electronics. In September 1981, the US Army aimed to modify the OH-58A Kiowa's to a D variation for scout patrols. The changes included a mast mounted sight and a cockpit control display subsystem. A-7D Corsair II
Aircraft design and performance by Graham P. Oxtoby, Rey Lopez and Dennis Seeley. A-7D Corsair II REFERENCE INFORMATION The A-7 Corsair II, named after it WWII predecessor was modeled after the supersonic fighter, the F-8 Crusader. With a 8 weapon stations, it is certainly not a fighter but rather carriers an assortment of rockets, bombs, air-to-ground missiles and more. The A-7 did not miss any sorties during Desert Storm and achieved more than 95% readiness for operations. Throught it’s history, the A-7 has been involved in over 120,000 combat sorties in Desert Storm, Vietnam, Libia, Panama and more.
