Depart Birmingham Airport on Air France (AF5137,AF406), 15.25 (Birm), 23.15 (Paris) Alternatively Lan Chile can be used (www.lan.com ) leave London (Heathrow) 18.50 (LA5711) change plane in Madrid ( LA 5703 ) at 00.10. (Arrive in Santiago at 8.40 next day) Arrive 8.25, change money in airport, travel to hotel using airport bus and metro. Hostal Rio Amazonas International (www.hostalrioamazona.cl), provides comfortable 2,3,4, or 5 bed rooms (with breakfast) close to Plaza Italia. Orientation of Santiago, visit San Cristobal Hill, excellent views of Santiago. Dinner at Gatsbys (buffet). Early night! Breakfast at 8.30. Leave hotel at 9.00. Metro to bus station. Tur-bus to Valpariso (2 hours). Tour of this historical port (UNESCO site) by Sebastian (Chilean teacher who worked at Arden School in 2007). Time permitting visit to beach at Vina before returning to Santiago. Evening meal in Bella Vista. Breakfast at 7.30. Leave hotel at 8.30. Metro, to bus station, airport bus to airport. Check in at 9.45. Catch Lan Chile (flight 285) at 10.55 to Punta Arenas, Patagonia. Arrive 14.15. Minibus taxi to town (Coachline, Marcelo Barrientos, tel 061 241864) Leave bags at British School. Orientation of Punta Arenas before leaving with host families. Students and teachers will come to school with host pupils/teachers. Morning in school assisting with English and learning some Spanish. Solihull students need to be prepared to do an assembly or some presentation to various year groups. Lunch in school. British School has offered to take student to visit the largest gas compression plant in the world found in Punta Arenas. Evening with families. Morning in school, possible walk/biological study on local hills. Lunch in school. Farewells then bus to Puerto Natales at 14.30 (Bus Fernandez tel. 061242313). Arrive 17.30 check in at Hotel Blanquita (tel. 061 411674). Orientation of Puerto Natales followed by evening meal at Picardas de Carlito Day trip on Nueva Galicia boat to visit Balmaceda Glacier and Serrano Glacier part of the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park www.nuevagalicia.cl (061 412352). Leave 7.30 back 18.00. Evening meal down town in Mesita Grande. Early night!! Breakfast at 8.30. Leave 10.30 on JB bus (061 410242) arrive at the park by 12.30, Laguna Amarga. Walk for 90 minutes (gentle slope) to refugio. Check in to Fantastico Sur, Las Torres Refugio (061 360360, albergue@lastorres.com). Relaxing afternoon . Evening meal and early night. Breakfast at 7.00. Walk to base of the Torres (4.hours). Climb is about 1000m, which is about the same as climbing Mt Snowdon. Picnic lunch at the base, return to refugio (3 hours). Bus transfer to Laguna Amarga to catch 17.30 JB bus back to Puerto Natales, arriving 19.30. Back to Hotel Blanquita. Evening meal at Carlitos. Breakfast 7.00. Bus Fernandez back to Punta Arenas at 8.00 dropping us off at the airport at 10.45. Lan Chile flight 288 to Puerto Montt leaving 12.10 arriving at Puerto Montt at 14.30. Paola Figueroa , Radio Taxi Ejecutivo, will meet us (065 542727,542414,276936, mob. 09 7406632, e.mail. PRFA_1905@hotmail.com). Trip to Puerto Varas and Llanquihue Lake. Check into hostel , Casa Azul (tel 065 232904, www.casaazul.net . Travel around the southern shore to Bellavista (www.oncesbellavista.cl , e.mail, lweisser@oncesbellavista.cl , tel 065 335323) for ‘Onces’ (high tea) and opportunity to swim and relax, excellent views of Osorno volcano and Carbusco volcano. Evening exploring Puerto Varas. It is a good place for Lapiz Lazulli jewellery. Breakfast 8.00. Take bus at 9.00 to Frutillar (lower) to see a German town. From there catch bus to Villarrica (via Osorno) (4 hours). Orientation of Villarrica before being collected from bus station by Southern Oxford School host families. Quiet evening. Chance to wash some clothes!!!! Students and teachers will come to Southern Oxford School with host students. Morning will be spent in school. Activities arranged in the afternoon. Evening with families. Solihull students will again be expected to assist in English classes and give a presentation on aspects of their school/ town, country etc. Students arrive at school with their rucksacks. Morning in school. Leave at lunchtime and take the bus to Pucon (30mins from Villarrica, JAC bus company). Check in to hotel , La Palmera, accommodation cabanas. Afternoon tour of the area with Turismo Florencia (www.turismoflorencia.com, tel 045 444311) to include, Ojos de Caburga, Lago Caburga and Colico and Termas do Quimey-Co. Evening meal in town. Breakfast at 7.00. Leave with Turismo Florencia 8.00. Students will be properly equipped and clothed by the centre. The duration of the trip is 8 hours (ascent and descent from 1400m to 2847m). Return to Pucon at 17.30. Evening meal in town. Optional extra; night visit to Termas los Pozones 20.00 return 23.00 (cost £10.00). Alternatively this excursion can be done using Enjoy Tours, www.enjoytour.cl tel 56 45 442313. Breakfast 9.00. Shopping in Pucon in the morning. Leave after lunch (14.00). Arrive Concepcion (Collao Bus Station), 19.00. Wessex School host families to meet students and teachers at the bus station. Evening with families. Students and teachers come to Wessex School with host families. Day spent in the school, classes in the morning and activities in the afternoon. School finishes early on Friday so chance to visit the Mall and enjoy bowling or the cinema. Solihull Students will again need to be prepared to present a powerpoint or participate in discussions in English.

Morning at leisure with families. Possible excursion to Mina del Chiflon del Diablo, Lota with host students. Visit to city centre, shopping. Evening with families. Leave 11.00 from Collao Bus Station on Tur-bus for Santiago. Arrive 17.00. Leave bags in storage, only overnight bag needed. Check in to Hotel Rio Amazonas. Last bit of sightseeing in Santiago. Farewell meal at Gatsbys. Morning to do last minute shopping. Metro then airport bus to Airport 12.30. Check in Air France (AF401) to Paris leaving at 15.55. Or alternatively take Iberia flight. Arrive Paris at 11.30 local time (5.30 Chilean time). Depart Paris 12.55, (AF5134) arrive Birmingham Airport at 13.20. Parents to collect. School starts. Only 3 days to go for a weekend when you can catch your breath and catch up on sleep!
