MMRF- Twin Cities Race for Research 5KWalk/Run Sunday, September 28, 2008 Lake Phalen - St. Paul, MN FUNDRAISING TIPS
Participant fundraising is the key to our success and most direct way to impact the search for a cure for multiple myeloma. All money raised through the MMRF Race for Research goes directly to fund the most promising myeloma research. ALL participants are highly encouraged to set a goal of raising $1000 or more. Here are some tips that will help you reach that level of success! Use the NEW Online Fundraising Tool:  Go to and click on Become a Fundraiser.  Set up your own personalized website complete with pictures and your personal story!  Email the link to all your friends, family, associates and contacts!  A very fun, simple, and effective way to track both online and offline donations. Set a High Personal Goal!  The average participant raises $700; many raise $1000 and even $5000!  Set a high, attainable goal and do your best to reach it! Sponsor Yourself!  Most people are likely to support something if you are supporting it too!  When others know that you have made a personal contribution, they will follow your lead! Write a Personal Letter, Tell your Story!  Write about your connection to multiple myeloma and why raising funds is so important to you.  Suggest a tax-deductible amount (Suggestion: $35 for individuals, $250 for businesses)  Include your personal fundraising goal.  Use and modify the Sample Solicitation letter provided. Distribute your letter!  Mail to your friends, family and associates  Send as an email to everyone in your address book. (This is very simple and effective).  Take it to the businesses that you frequent (ie, your dry cleaner, hairdresser, favorite coffee shop, dentist (Include the corporate sponsorship form or ask about in-kind donations too!)  Brainstorm other possible contacts: Who do your siblings and friends work for or know? Recruit your friends and family to get involved and do the same! Follow up and be persistent. Keep track of funds that you have raised on your own fundraising website or on the Contribution Collection Form provided. Turn in donations at the MMRF Contribution Tent (located near registration) on event day.
